I think it more likely the extra Chinooks would then be cancelled as well....

If the Soviets couldnt succeed, I doubt the Allied forces could. The money could go towards the recovery of the recession that could then mean more money could be spent on the military after the country is stabilised. daz greenwood
We will be in the stan for as long as it takes. I don't think we should pull out. The Military needs all the hardware it can get, so my idea is kick all the non- money grabbing nationals out that are a drain on this country. Then we will have more money to play with
marty_hopkirk
And I hate Job Seeker's Allowance £65 a week don't go far.But then when you get rejected for jobs, what can you do. What I did in the early '80s as a twenty something, went back to school and then via Tech Coll eventually to University. It was the best thing I ever did taking control of my life. I never looked back from that day.. Marty...

Beating an enemy which can disguise themselves as citizens or are masters of guerilla warfare isnt easy, it'll just be like a second Vietnam war

marty_hopkirk
So just coz I'm unemployed makes me one of the great unwashed huh? No, but one can take control of the situation. Colleges are currently looking and welcoming student applications - it's surprisingly easy to do and probably the best thing you will ever do. Marty... However how can you judge someone, doing exactly the same as you by virtue of their country of origin? I think you may need to re-examine the term hypocrite. Hypnobear
They are doing the best they can, with the right intentions, but theyre fighting a losing war I cant see how they could beat the taliban. Even with all the hi tech weapons at their disposal, there will still be more recruits to fight against our forces.
Greg B
Personally no, if you think I go anywhere daft with dreams of the Union Flag being waved, bands playing, a sweetheart left behind and off to give harry hun 6 of the best and back in time for tea and medals you really are deluded. I go because: I'm told to. My mates are there. Having seen a variety of shoiteholes worldwide, sometimes we do make a difference and that's what the idea is about. The right to live without fear and oppression is a lofty ideal, maybe it will happen, maybe not but at least I've had a bash. I'll add to this that I'm very glad and lucky to have the support of a large portion of the UK populace, who by and large are decent, thoughtful, contributing people to the UK good and ideals and this is independent of birthplace, colour, religion or views on the war. However: Personally, I couldn't give a flying feck about another portion of the UK population who, whilst I and many others endure, idly waste time and my money at home (because I still pay tax, lots of it wherever I go), who use any excuse to wave flags and spout man-vegetables, whose idea of a difficult day is finding the remote to switch on Jeremy Kyle. I help to guarantee your right to have an opinion and the right to advertise that opinion, it doesn't mean I have to agree with it or keep my mouth shut about it. Well are they? Or are not fighting for our freedom?
daz greenwood
Ok I stand corrected sorry? And I don't watch TV I'm online looking for employment during the day and surfing the net to see what goodies I can buy myself to bulk up the stash. And I do appreciate what the forces do. And I appreciate what the veterans did 70 years ago in the BoB, and 60 years ago in that far off land called Korea.
bentwaters81tfw
All war is about political exploitation, whether disguised under the banner of religion or not. Due to the forum rules I can't say much more. Our troops deserve the best, whatever situation they are faced with. Many of them know why there are in the 'Stan, and some of us over here know as well. The Jeremy Kyle generation probably don't even know when the 'Stan is, let alone the real undertones of our involvement. For my money, bring our guys back. It's a waste of life, and a waste of cash, and we won't reap any benefits from it.
