Lublin R-XIII ter (1/72)

Recommended Posts

Welcome on my second workshop thread on britmodeller!

The model I've chosen to work on is the Aeroplast's 1/72 scale plane named Lublin R-XIII ter. It's a float version of popular pre-war recon plane Lublin R-XIII. Mybe it will be a litlle exotic for some of you and I hope you will find it interesting :)

The kit is quite old and it's quality is not so good, but I've seen worse. I will add a photoetched elements form Part's sheet.

The plane I want to make got a very interesting story. At 7th of September 1939 crew of that plane made a brave and risky attack using 6 small bombs (12.5kg) and machine gun fire to spoil the german defilade at captured city of Gdansk. It was a nasty suprise for self-confident germans who were sure that polish air force in that region doesn't exist anymore. Their propaganda hid the informations about casaluties. They also said, that was the Luftwaffe mistake but polish sources have no doubt about that night air attack...

At day one of the build I've managed to put together all cockpit parts. Now they are waiting for paint cover.

Excellent choice of model and great work in one day. Wish I was that quick!

Did you need to thin the plastic?

Why not paint the seats etc first then install them in the frame?

Hello again!

Thanks you guys for replies :)Ed! Yes, I needed to thin the plastic a little bit on the inner side. I didn't paint the parts separately because almost everything was finished in one colour - chrome silver. Some small details were easily painted with small brush.

Today I painted the cockpit and put together fuselage halves. I also glued wing, stabilizer and floats. All those parts need to have a makeover. Especially floats which looks like made of bricks! :)

Hello!

Thanks for comments!

Killingholme Yep, it was at night on 7th of September. Crew was sent to check if Schleswig-Holstein is still in suspected area and try to bomb it. The ship wasn't there so crew decided to patrol the area near Gdańsk. They observed big crowd with torches and lights at the city. They noticed that was german parade and decided to attack it with bombs and machine gun fire. It was the same flight I described on first post of this thread :) Can I ask how did You know?

Now about model:

I made a first step with water on the support. I used Vallejo Water Effects. I must say it's quite nice to worki with. Now I'll have to paint it to look more like Baltic sea :D There is still alot of work to do. It's my first experience with water.

Stanley,

I have a copy of English-language history of Polish airforce 1918-1939 by Bartolomiej Belcarz & Robert Peczkowski. It is a superb work, and details the 7th Sept raids in perfect detail.

Now if only I could manipulate the old plastic kits as well as you!

p.s- In my railroad modelling days I always made myresin-cast water a couple of tones darker than I instinctly decided it should be. Almost black actually. I don't know why, but it looks deeper and clearer somehow.

That looks better with the decals on. Even after 44 years in the hobby I never cease to be captivated with the decaling process and the transformation a model undergoes. I have a 1/48 scale kit of this type in the stash and your model is giving me itchy fingers.
