Daves RC Diary

Well, I'm sat here bored out of my skull, I've popped my back and there is little I can do at present just standing or moving is a struggle.

As some of you will know I'm going back to RC model flying, having sold of some of my stash to fund this endevour. Mike said he hoped I could inject some life in to this area of the forum so here we go.

I've got money in the bank to spend on kit, but I can't get to the shop at present to spend it, I've got a good Idea of what I intend to buy, but nothing is set in stone so to speak, I'll see what the guy has to offer when I wave notes in front of him.

So as I buy and build, and use what I buy, I'll post it in here.

Dont know what kit your buying but dont get a foam RTF EDF Jet there absolute garbage there cheap for a reason the electronics are terrible they are usually ok for a few months then they start to fail which is no fun with EDF,s as they glide like house bricks. Ive had 3 of the buggers and i wont be buying anymore in a hurry.

My money seems to be heading towards a Irvine high wing trainer and a spektum 2.4 gig radio, but as I said, until I get to the shop, I'm a bit unsure, we will see.

not in to foam stuff, but very tempted by the koyosho Phantom they had in the shop the other day, but I won't buy anything like that until I'm back in the swing of things again

at present it looking like the odds are on these

And I'm after one of these to, which helped me greatly the last time I was flying

I'll post more, when I'm back on my feet, and able to get to the model shop

Cheers

If you are going the high wing trainer route, then the Chris Foss Wot-4 is now available as an All ready To Fly (ARTF) was well as the more traditional kit. The ARTF comes in cheaper than the kit at about £80. I have seen a couple of these and they look pretty good to me. They also do a clone branded as Wot Trainer - very similar in appearance. My only advice on the ARTFs is to strengthen around the undercarriage mounts - now a must-do step on evry ARTF I put together.

There is a very good on-line engine outfit called Just Engines ( http://www.justengines.org ) who I can highly recommend. They carry a range of good quality glow engines called "ASP" - and again I can highly recommedn both 2 and 4 stroke ASPs.

On electric foam D/Fs I have had mixed results. I had 2 SAPAC Typhoons which were very. very good once I got a decent motor/fan combination in them. Both now sadly demised due to pilot error and the model is no longer available. Some of the other moulded EDFs are questionable - and some are just outragously expensive for what you get.
