Several people have asked how I used felt tip pens to complete the camo schemes on my recent Luftwaffe NightFighters:

I described my technique on this thread http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=48914 so now for some more detail.

For the purposes of this description I am using a Revell Me262 - that my son never completed.

Everything described here was completed today - 26 June 2010. Excellent weather aided the paint-drying time.

Some of this is an experiment to me as well.

First I applied a base coat of Humbrol 127 to the wings, which will be my demonstration area.

Next MattCoat(enamel) to the Starboard wing - leaving the port wing untreated.

Then I used various felt pens to write on both wings.

As you can see - it doesn't really work on the untreated surface.

The pen that works best is this Faber Castell PITT Artist Pen - from my local art shop.

Next I decided to do the same to the tail surface - with an acrylic matt finish. In this case Klear with Tamiya Flat Base.

This didn't get much drying time at all before being written on.

I did leave it all a good time in the sun for the inks to set - before sealing over.

Unfortunately MattCoat melted my Faber Castell pen. This was how I completed my Messerschmitt Bf110 - so that needs overnight drying time.

Klear melts other felt pens, but leaves the Faber Castell pen - so that's the way to go.

Probably not true RLM75 - but close enough for me.

I'll probably take this model to Yate in August - if anyone want to see it.
