Morning all,

Does anyone know of a source for 1/48 and/or 1/72 Vokes filters for Hurris please?

Nope :(

The ones I have seen supplied with kits are never particularly good imho and a good aftermarket Volkes is required.

Have only really been after 1/72 and haven't seen any of Hasegawa's efforts yet. The rest rarely seem to fully capture the look of it

In 1/72 pavla has a set that includes the filter, 3 styles of propellers and fuel tanks.

I also saw a series of sets advertised from aviation workshop that included the vokes filter, but I can't understand if these are still listed on their website

That looks like the resin sets offered by SAM yonks back

I got the De Havilland prop Volkes and camera pack.

If it is the same the Volkes does not quite work but may be passable if you are not too finnickity.

IMHO that one was too short and didn't follow the curve of the nose enough and so it looked more like a spit with a tropical filter!

However it looks like it has a correct mouth shape

This is about the best shot I have to hand. It took some fettling to get the thing to blend better and am not totally happy with it.

Good to know those sets are available though.

Thanks for the links Steve.

I believe the Aeroclub one is a Vokes. I don't know of any aftermarket Aboukir filter in 1/72 - isn't that what the Italeri Spitfire is for?.

Remember that the shape will be different on Mk.I and Mk.II Hurricanes: possibly that's why some don't seem to fit too well, but more likely they are made for different kits.

I buy my Red Roo straight from Australia. There's quite a range of interesting stuff, so it may be worth your while picking up a few other items - for example P&W cowlings for Beauforts and Hudsons.

Some hope is at hand then, thank you chaps.

Yes my Spits have all got their noses right (Italeri Vb and Airfix Vc), but Hurris are harder to come by unless they're IIc or IId.

Shopping list duly updated with thanks.

Anyone know if the RedRoo ones are available in the UK please?

not familiar with them and who stocks their products

I'm pretty sure the only way to get hold of Redroo stuff is to contact them (actually him - Gary Byk) directly. Redroo is literally a one-man band but Gary is one of the nicest people around, and also extremely knowledgeable.

We make lots of nice stuff - once you start looking through our web site you will find plenty of things to fill out your order (:>)

Easy to get in touch as we have a shopping cart that nearly always works.

Red Roo is basically a one man show but there are a few slaves-cum-researchers (like me) conntributing to the flow of resin, decals and books.

Will try and get in touch as I may need a few and there is a lot of work to do trying to get the shape right.
