Blacktjet Posted July 25, 2010 Share Posted July 25, 2010 If I remember years ago it was suggested that the Helos move to the Army & Navy respectivley and at the time the RAF fought tooth & nail to keep them!Makes sense to move the helo assets, but the Nimrod? not at this stage I would have thought. Julien I think, the only reason the RAF fought tooth and nail to keep them, was an attemt to keep the then current 'size' of the RAF. The services have to compete for a share of the budget and it's always best to ask for more than you need. As for the Nimrod, you are right, handing the a/c over at this late stage would be impossible. However, it may be a ploy to get the operating costs transferred to the Navy budget, not the a/c. I'll bet the Navy chiefs drew a sharp intake of breath, when they heard that the RAF were willing to cancel Nimrod. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
