Straight from the box again done for MAi. The figure is from MDC and only recently released.

Hope you like her??

John, that is gorgeous! The figure painting is superb too! Lovely, just blooming lovely!

Lovely piece of work. The figure is evocative of the famous photo of Kane and Orton leaning on the trailing edge of a Hurricane wing in France in 1940.

Hey John - very nice model! You should be proud of that one..!

I have a question: I'm building this kit at the moment and I'm wondering if you had any trouble with yours. The reason I ask is that the one I have doesn't fit together at all well; the wing roots for instance have a 2 mm gap front to back on both sides which hasn't been pointed out in any of the reviews I have read for this model. What was yours like? Because mine is poor to say the least...

Great build , been meaning to get one for a while now and seeing yours has inspired me. :gobsmacked:

One tiny obsevation when the foot step is in the down position the small hand grab cover on the fuslarge side should be open ,hope you dont mind the error being pointed out. :tomato:

That's a beauty. I have not got on well with the PCM spit I have half built - odd shiny plastic and lots of gaps - did you have to fight your hurri to get it looking so good or have they improved enough for me to give them another go? :analintruder:

That's one of the best Hurricanes I've seen. A superb piece of work..

To nit-pick irritatingly, your pilot appears to be wearing the later 'War Service Dress' (ie RAF battledress), whereas he should be in the older-style 'Service Dress' (ie longer jacket).

He's really well painted though.. :)

Also, he's carrying a revolver - something normally associated with the later stages of the war. In fact he may be wearing army style battledress, as indicated by the large patch pocket on the left thigh. This was common amongst pilots based in the low countries as the usual blue uniform could lead to them being taken for germans.

Having said that I agree with Ian about him being well painted. Wish I could do figures. The Hurri is, of course, also excellent.

Hi John,

That's a cracking build, I really like your finish & weathering, & the base sets it off really nicely!

Can I ask whether you found any references to show LR-R in that configuration ? (ie 2 blade prop, early exhausts & no tailwheel strake) Reason I ask is that is the aircraft I want to build mine as, but the box art disagrees with Mr. Caruanas profile drawing (which shows the above configuration), & the only pic I can find of LR-R mainly agrees with the box-art - ie 3 blade prop, what appear to be the later exhausts & a tailwheel strake, but with the same size & style codes & B-type fuselage roundels! I'd really like to see a pic of L1909 with the earlier features as that's how I want to build her!

Cheers

That is very nice indeed. Any glaring issues building it/

Pete

Very typical limited run kit with all of the associated issues with previous PCM kits.

Thats a Fantastic build, could you share you procedure for painting figures

Graham

I will be doing that very thing in the future for MAi so please look out for that.

Thank you for that I was not aware of this item. I always try to build from the kit when doing reviews as I believe this is the fairest way of showing the kit to the viewing audience and this was not an option or mentioned so I did it as it is.

To be honset I have been doing Limited run kits and resin kits for years so I don't consider fit issues to be much of a problem, I have fought some kits in the past and I understand what you are asking, I would suggest that some experience of limited run kits would be an advantage with this one though!!

Hi Ian

thank you and I was wandering how long before someone spotted the deliberate mistake! He is indeed the late war figure designed to go with the MDC Typhoon but as he was finished at the same time I took the photo of them both. I did some research and found that that type of uniform seemed to be more in service with comonwealth pilots as well as towards the later stages of the war. The photo you see in this post will not be in the magazine article as I try to avoid using the same picture. As I said they were taken together as they were in the photo tent at the same time.

Hi Keef

I could not find any references within my own library of LR-R so I chose to stick with the kit configuration. I have heard all sorts of conotations on the scheme but in the end I had to stick with what was presented. As I don't have the luxury of the photo's I cannot comment upon the accuracy of the markings and exhaust. I would hope that the manufacturer would have some documentary evidence to back up the config and therefore I have made an assumption that it is correct, I am more than happy to be shown otherwise as this will highlight the error and aid others in avoiding my mistakes if indded that is what has happened.

Cheers for all the feedback

Thanks John,

Unfortunately my scanner has gone tech so I can't scan the picture in question, but it's in the old Ducimus Camouflage & Markings booklet on the Hurricane. I think I may well do the same as you though & build it in that configuration & wait to be proven wrong! I ''assume'' (dangerous I know!) that Hurricanes could have been updated with replacement props, exhausts etc through their service lives, which could explain the differences in the pic I've seen. On the other hand I could be swayed & do Paul Richey's Battle of France machine instead....!!!

Whatever, yours is an inspiring build - so much so that I dug mine out & started it earlier!!

All the best

Keef
