4scourge7
I`ve picked up some tips along the way on how to detail Revell`s 72nd scale Typhoon without reverting to aftermarket. The lead article is a speculative four-ship with EPWIII and at the end there is links to detailing a T.2 and FGR.4 without aftermarket. http://www.arcair.com/Gal9/8001-8100/gal80...n-Buick/00.shtm HTH Cheers, Ian

gary1701
Those would be great! Hi, Just got back this evening after two days at Coningsby with hardly a cloud in the sky. Very busy, with many hundreds of pics taken of not just Typhoon's but Tornado's, Harrier's, F-15's, Tucano's and all the BBMF types besides a Chipmunk (which did actually fly, just couldn't get a pic!). Here's one of the new 6 Sqn jets as a sample, many more to follow. I'll edit this up with more pics, probably tomorrow. Gary Edit: Ok gents, here's a selection of images of Typhoon's at RAF Coningsby from the 3/4th June 2010. You've got the regular existing units and aircraft with little change there. Many aircraft are still at Warton on R2 upgrade and the Typhoon fleet still has more than it's fair share of long term hangar queen's although the oldest one (ZJ915/BY) has recently returned to flight and is now at Warton. 6 Squadron have begun to fly sorties in their own right now, with their own aircraft and callsigns, rather than operating alongside existing units. These are recent Tranche 2 jets, in the ZK3** series, without PIRATE and although starting to get codes (E*) they apparently will not display unit markings until the transfer to Leuchars later this year. I'll put some of the pics of other types in another post for the aviation photography forum to keep this thread on topic. Overnight the 6 Sqn jet below gained wing tanks. The T1 below is the airframe that came to grief at Coningsby in January 2006 when the nose wheel failed on landing and after rebuild it has only recently returned to flying status. It certainly looks a lot less worn that the other early twin-sticks! Couple of 3/11 Sqn jets turning onto 07 from the Northside HAS site's. Overshoot's on 07. Look's like they still do not retract the gear when in the visual circuit, lot's of stories as to why, none confirmed though and I'd be curious to know if the other operators do the same. Recoveries on 07. One of 29®'s early jets, now upgraded to T3 status and working with 11 Sqn from the Southside HAS site. This is a sequence from what according to the locals was the first three ship sortie by the new 6 Sqn, callsign 'Venom 1-3' that took place friday morning. It didn't go quite to plan when one of the jets had to be escorted back early by another with a still extended IFR probe - presumably jammed or not operating. This was the third time in the two days I was there that the rescue crews escorted a sick Typhoon back to parking! It's no doubt that these things have the potential to be a superb aircraft for the RAF - assuming it's not cost cut to impotence - but they seem so damn fragile, even allowing for it being a new type. 'Venom' on the roll. Sick jet coming back. Other two returning. Hope the long post is ok, and I'll link the other post when done. Non-Typhoon shots now here; http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.p...t=0#entry533452 Gary Edited June 5, 2010 by gary1701
aw-boss man
Bobski - great pictures of the Mk 16 Seat. In Hendon there is a Mk.10L Seat which is captioned as the seat used in the DA2. Is that correct, and am I right in believing that the Typhoons seat is more reclined than the usual for a Mk 10? Have a look on the Martin Baker web site, there are some excellent pictures including colour information on the Mk.16 seat. This shows the angle and has some line drawings. I looked at the SAMI Typhoon Guide yesterday at Salisbury model show as I am looking to complete a data sheet on the Typhoons on our web site shortly. A word of warning. The colour information/finishes is incorrect. Regards Gary www.theaviationworkshop.co.uk

Yes, the Saudi colours are definitely incorrect and I'm pretty sure the Austrian ones are too. Still some debate over the Italian and Spanish colours, but I've asked Eurofighter for some clarification on them. Other than that the book is very good. davidsm
Evening guy's, I'm in need of some help. I'm building the following http://www.abpic.co.uk/search.php?q=ZH590&u=reg Which lives at duxford. I'm not sure of the colours. I don't think it's barley grey? It looks too dark to me. If anyone can tell me what the colours are in humbrol I'd be very happy Thanks in advance David

I believe Barley Grey, darkened slightly, should suffice. Failing that, you should mix a grey to match the photo.

Bobski
Ok thankyou.Every picture i've found it loks a bit different. But heavily weathered. David DA4 did a lot of flying for us, and the RAF used it quite intensively as a ground instructional airframe. I'd say your best bet is to try to match a photo - that way you're correct to your reference even if the colour isn't "correct" to the drawing! Tango 1
What a great thread! Thanks for putting this together, its answered a lot of my questions already. Just one thing, would a RAF Typhoon actually carry Paveway III's? Anyone got any pics of how they are fitted?

No, Paveway IIIs are not carried at present, so I don't know on what stations they would be carried. Speculating (because I don't know) I would think centre wing (in place of tanks) and possibly the inboards, but I'm not sure if there would be a clearance problem with the AMRAAMs. Edited June 9, 2010 by Bobski
4scourge7
My VERY speculative placement of EPWIII on inboards. Any further back and they would foul the undercart doors. However, it should be noted that these Hasegawa bombs have the mounting mechanism which aligns perfectly with the RoG`s kit sway braces, still allowing room for the gear doors, which is nice. http://www.arcair.com/Gal9/8001-8100/gal80...n-Buick/00.shtm As Bobski points out, pure speculation at the moment. Hi, Here's a couple more but that's the lot of the close-ups I'm afraid. I should have taken more as it actually occurred to me while up at the cockpit that as many pics as possible would probably be handy for the modelling guys. I went for the detail areas but should really have taken a few more. One more from a airstairs outside. Delayar
I thought the same, but in all the photos I've seen of them they definitely don't have the blue tint that is so clear on the German aircraft. I looked long and hard at them when I got the info and I believe that it is the Spanish grey and not the German one. Hi! I think here and here the blue tint is quite apparent. So I think it is the same color as the German Typhoons (which also makes sense, since the Austrian Typhoons are not new ones, but second-hand jets from Germany) Regards, Markus

They are not second-hand. I'm certain that these jets are not the same colour as the German ones and the information that I have received so far suggests the same, as do all the photographs I have found of them. In some lights they have a blue tint, but in most they do not.
