OzH
Mowed the lawn, cleaned the patio, skimmed and shock treated the pool, what to do now... Decided to add the finishing touches to, a long running project, a Gulf War VC10 tanker. I used the Airfix 1/144 kit with the addition of the Bra.Z engine set (P/N B4KEV1) that gives 100% improvement over the kit parts. Forgot to take a picture, but the link to the website shows you what they look like. I filled the cabin windows and cockpit windscreen, re-scibed the panel lines, the only addition to the kit apart from the engines was the inner wing fences. Finished in Xtracrlyic Light Aircraft grey and Vegello Hemp that I think is really to dark. Decal are from F-Silk, great detail, but, VERY fragile. I had a bit of a nightmare getting them anywhere near good, kept getting them creased, then they’d rip! The cabin windows on the port/left side are really messed up, you’ll see they don’t run in a row as I ripped them then couldn’t budge them. After the a Klear coat, I then, cleverly, dropped her! Split all the way up the bottom fuselage, broke one of the buddy tanks and cracked the wing! A bit of a challenge, but, all done though, doesn’t look to bad… Took the pictures in the beautiful Dorset afternoon sunshine. Managed to knock the in-flight refuelling probe off while turning her over! Right then, time to get the Bar-B-Q lit.....

Jabba
Still looks bery good. I have two sets of those decals for future use on VC-10 projects, so thanks for the advise on how they are to be handled. Would coating them in the Micro Scale decal film have helped?

general melchett
Nice one Ozh!..you gotta love the lines of the 'Queen of the skies'. Great finish, looks spot on !. See these trundling over the house quite often on their way into Waddington...a very distinctive sight and sound! I've got one of these on the go myself..........but this one is very different
OzH
Thanks guys for the comments, much appreciated Still looks bery good. I have two sets of those decals for future use on VC-10 projects, so thanks for the advise on how they are to be handled. Would coating them in the Micro Scale decal film have helped? Jabba, I think the best way to approach these would be to cut the cabin window into two or even three sections, even though I filled the kit window there was still a trace of them that I could have used as a guide to line them up correctly. I may even do the same with the cockpit glazing, split one side of the front middle window and do it that way. The only other one I had problems with was the cargo door, thats a real mess - hense - no close ups! that may work better with the decal film idea. Hope that helps

tonyot
Thats a beauty....just how I remember them lookin at Brize back in the 80`s and 90`s....noisy beggars...especially at death o`clock in the morning! They look much better in the old Hemp scheme and you`ve done a superb job there, in fact you`ve inspired me to dig out my old kit from the stash and look out for the decal sheet you`ve used, excellent job Cheers Tony O

tonyot
As I was out running them during that period, glad to have been of service to you Tony Cheers Tony.......! Some of slept during the hours of darkness back then you know!......when I was first posted to Brize..... I arrived on a dark Sunday night in heavy rain with no aircraft movements, so once I`d found my nice new RAF issue single man (or person!) bunk (much better than the 8 man rooms I`d been used to so far in my Army career) and got my head down......... only to be woken hours later by the loudest noise I`d ever heard in my life......I thought the building had been hit by a stray aircraft! After falling out of my pit and dashing outside I was gob smacked to find that my new home seemed to be literally feet away from the runway!! Being a life long aircraft geek this was am amazing stroke of luck which made Brize my all time favourite posting. My next postings to Bulford and Catterick were just not the same somehow! Sorry for hijacking your thread Oz, Cheers Tony O
