I have heard bad things about the Revell Fw 190A-8 canopy, that you can't built it open, that it's think and not transparent enough. Now, I don't know if I got a particularly bad batch, but I find it absolutely unbuildable. Not only this plastic "rough" and even came with flash, but it doesn't fit in the space at all, it's too narrow. And the front piece is also too narrow and doesn't fall in place. I am puzzled on how I can actually fit the damn thing but I have given up - it's useless. I have never seen such a rubbish canopy which I surprises me the most coming from Revell, and coming from the overall quality of the kit which is quite good.

Does anybody know of any replacement canopies I can find? Hannants only lists a Falcon set but at £8.50 I might as well just by a Hase kit and throw this little "gem" in the garbage bin.

Shame, such a nice and cheap kit otherwise...

I had a similar problem with a revell P-51B, a very fogged canopy that didn't fit at all. In my case I managed to make a vacformed replacement after I looked for a squadron replacement with no luck.

Rather than buying a falcon set, that I believe includes a number of canopies, you can look for a Squadron replacement. There are two types, a "flat" like that in the kit and a "blown" for 190F and some Doras. They come at a reasonable £2.75 for a pack of 2. Hannants have them listed as in stock.

These are manufactured by Falcon for Squadron, so you be sure about their quality. Some fettling might be needed to make fit though, I'm not sure for which kit they're designed

Ohh thanks, I was running "canopy" in the search is why I probably didn't see them!

I've just encountered the same problem. I ordered an Aeroclub vacform canopy from Hannants - ABC086 - which is designed for the Revell 190. Price is £1.17

Another way to get around this problem, if slightly more expensive, is to buy something like the academy fw 190 D9 kit, as it comes with two canopies, blown and normal. so with a bit of fettling and cutting away of the revell canopy framework, you can have a nice canopy. plus you then have a fw 190 D9 left over....a real shame that... ;)

I noticed fogging and loss of detail on the canopy of the otherwise lovely RoG Me262A. I wonder if the transparencies were ejected from the mould too soon.

The canopy moulding on the initial batch of the new tool Revell Me 262A were showing mould damage - and that was in 1997! I'd hate to see what they're like now.

The option of using the Dora canopy from the Academy kit is a a very good suggestion. IIRC it fits the Revell ki with little or no effort.

Am I just naive or out of the loop? if Revell has/had problems with canopies wouldn't they have fixed it by now? or at very least offer a replacement if you contacted them?

sigh- :undecided:

I bought a 262 at the same time as the 190 but hadn't planned on building it yet. I just looked at the canopy and indeed, it is absolutely atrocious. I don't see what's the point of a replacement, since the replacement will be just as shoddy. They need to get their quality control in order because there's just no other justification for it.

Try The Aviation Hobby Shop; they have Falcon sets, at the original prices, Aeroclub canopies, and a box of Squadron canopies (1/48 & 1/72.)
