Dr_Fester
Hi all, This build was intended as my entry for the Telford competition, unfortunately it turned out to be a dog of a kit! I have heard many good things of the Trumpeter kits but my particular one caused nothing but headaches and extra work. Mis-aligned sprues and heaps of flash setting the build back further and further and eventually the whole thing just stalled and I gave up on it. Until this weekend when I thought I'd take another bite and try and get the thing done. First off I would state here and now that the problems I've had with the build are probably my own making and even with some helpful pointers from Jen I had problems fitting the thing together. Anyhow here are a few photees for what they are worth just to show that there is progress. I had taken some cockpit shots but for some reason I can't find em. The engine:- Fuse assembled:- Along with various sub assemblies:- I was quite tempted to leave part of the clear engine cowl unpainted but with no wiring or detail allowed in the competition the engine does look a little plain:- So today I have masked and pre shaded ready for the top coat:- I have made my own masks for the insignia so these will be sprayed. Post more progress soon ( I hope ) Cheers Doc *EDIT* Before you ask, NO this model is going nowhere near Telford in November thats for sure. Dr_Fester
Thanks Hector, I'm not sure which profile to paint yet, probably the kit one. Doc
mikeew
Hiya Doc, Looking good mate I built the Trumpy 32nd Wildcat earlier this year. Didn't find any major problems with it, except for the rather tight fit of the fuselage once the cockpit and engine bearers were installed. Before Britmodeller was launched I had it in progress over on ARC Linky Finished model piccies Linky 2 hope these help and good luck with the rest of the build . Mike. Dr_Fester
..........Didn't find any major problems with it. There now I knew it was just my incompetence. Thanks Mike for your build thread links I have read them through totally and she looks a beauty. Did I read that this one is entered in the comp at Telford? Dr_Fester
Thx Nev & Erwin I have now added the masking for the stars, first applied the white and then the mask which is made from computer cut vinyl. The dark blue will be added last after the lighter top coat has been sprayed. I did run off a whole sheet of the masks as I thought they might be needed. In its present state it kinda looks like a russian winter scheme wildcat Next up the light grey underside and then the top coat. More soon Doc
Hector
Hi Doc! Well , I prefer paint marks than decalling. What mask are those masks? I have several, from montex, but those I dont know what are ? let me know, anyway. start to looks better best regards. Héctor

My immediate thoughts too, nice little whatiffery daydreaming (No? Just me then ) amongst the Work In Progress! That looks well funky.
Dr_Fester
Thx Guys, Hector as I said the masks are some I made myself at work using the same vinyl we use for making signs. Hopefully the glue won't peel off the paint underneath when I remove them! Mike I only used red vinyl for the masks as that was close at hand at work, could have been any other colour. But not until I had fixed them on and taken some photos it struck me that with a little more work and skiis added it could easily be a WIF. Dr_Fester
OK progress today, Eventually got some blue on this crate :- I have post shaded with a lighter blue to try and give a faded effect, although this looks a little stark at the moment I intend blending/misting the whole thing including the insignias last of all. So then the circle mask added for the dark blue around the star:- Straight XF-8 sprayed on :- Again this dark colour will be toned down at a later date, then the moment of truth peeling off the masks and hoping the vinyl wouldn't lift the white underneath :- All seems pretty good, a little paint creep in a few places and a few spots where the paint did get pulled off but on the whole no bad:- So this is where the build has reached today, all masks removed including the "50". Next on the list the misting and a clear coat (probably future) then I can finally mount engine and gear. More soon. Doc
Col.
Nice work with the masks Doc, the way forward for modelling perhaps? Re. the overspray and slight loss of paint from peeling, could this have been a factor on the real thing?
miduppergunner
Hello Swampy - just as you thought perhaps you were safe - hmmm - just as well you didn't enter it, huh??? Never mind, remember - "distance lends enchantment" so just avoid the close ups in future! Does seem a waste of a nice kit though. David. PS Perhaps not quite as good as the Swordfish, but not bad. (Note this was added at the request of Admins - they are aware how sulky you get when people tell the truth!)
