Davec_24 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Hi all, I'm thinking of getting a few Armourfast AFVs but have never had any of these before, so I have a couple of questions to address to the collective wisdom of BM! Firstly, I want a few StuG IIIs but ideally I'd like them with schurtzen too. The box art does not show this fitted, though the box art for Armourfast's StuH 42 does. Do any of you know whether the StuG has the option for schurtzen? I may also get a couple of M10s and/or Achilles. What is the overall quality, detail etc. like on these models; do they build into something good without too much fuss? Also, what sort of material are they made from (polystyrene, soft plastic, resin, etc.)? Thanks for your help folk!
daz greenwood Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Hi Dave they are plastic and are quite good in detail. I have the Sherman Firefly in the stash if you want pics?
Davec_24 Posted May 15, 2010 Author Posted May 15, 2010 Daz, that'd be good if you could, just to give me an idea of what to expect. Anyone else know about the schurtzen on those StuGs?
daz greenwood Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 (edited) Right Dave. As you probably know you two kits in the box, made from hard plastic. And the Sherman Firefly is based on an M4 hull and not an M4A4. So anyway enough of the yabba, on with the pics. Hmmmmmmmmm I can see me building this soon, but using left over bits from the countless Dragon ones I've built. I will get the StuG III's they do, and the PzKpfw III's. Davec_24 Posted May 15, 2010 Author Posted May 15, 2010 Hmm, looks pretty nice actually. Thanks for putting those up, looks like some of those Armourfast M10s and/or Achilles might also be half decent if their Firefly is anything to go by.
davidelvy Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 One word of warning about the Achilles. It has an open turret, but no internal detail. I presume the M10 is the same.
Davec_24 Posted May 16, 2010 Author Posted May 16, 2010 Thanks for the heads up Dave. Is that no detail at all then (so nothing in the turret and also nothing in the hull)?
Baggers Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 (edited) Hi Davec The Stug III does not come with Schurzen but as you've seen the StuH 42 does. There is a build thread by Sean Padraig (I think I've got the spelling right!) a month or so ago regarding his build of the Cromwell. The Achilles and M-10s have no interior at all. The bottom of the turret is completely closed off (inaccurate). Edited May 17, 2010 by Baggers
Davec_24 Posted May 17, 2010 Author Posted May 17, 2010 Cheers Baggers, that's helpful info! Hmm, looks like the Achilles/M10 could be a lot of work (especially to do four or so of each)!
davidelvy Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Thanks for the heads up Dave. Is that no detail at all then (so nothing in the turret and also nothing in the hull)? Mine is buried in the stash, but from memory there is nothing in there at all. I don't even recall seeing a breech for the gun, but Im happy to be corrected.
Séan Pádraig Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Here is the thread Baggers was talking about if it helps. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.p...p;hl=Armourfast
Davec_24 Posted May 18, 2010 Author Posted May 18, 2010 It looks like that Cromwell is actually pretty nice, except that the tracks look very basic indeed - that seems a bit of a shame as the rest of the model looks like it could turn out pretty decent with just a conservative level of detailing and refinement. Thanks for sharing that Séan!
NinjabreadMan Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Looks like even the 'empty' M-10 and Achillies can be worked into something nice: Onewaymodels M-10
thx6667 Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Did they ever have a tarp cover? That would solve the empty interior easy!
