Jens Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 A lot of things have changed in my life during the last year or so, but now - for the first time in more than 10 years - nearly all my models have been moved to my new home. This also means that I have been able to move some of my ongoing projects into a cupboard. The following pictures show some of my still not finished projects from the latest two decades or so. Mike Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 What on earth causes you to stop mid-way Jens? None of those look like projects that would tire a guy out
Irishgreek Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 You've got a lot of modeling done there. Just spread out a whole lot. You've made me feed much better about have 6 or 7 kits 'in flight' Thanks

Jens Posted May 11, 2010 Author Posted May 11, 2010 wow jens you have some cracking builds there, some look so close to being finished, crack on man crack on!! Thanks Mark. I think it will be a while before I can actually start building again... Got loads of other stuff to do at the moment. ..bit of an eye-opener... don't think I've seen so many unfinished builds. Hartmann's 109 looks excellent ! Thanks, it's a old build and one of my first airbrush jobs. Learned a lot from it. What on earth causes you to stop mid-way Jens? None of those look like projects that would tire a guy out They all have their own special reason...most of them probably because a new kit hit the building table. The latest ones stopped because of divorce and a move to a house that is nowhere near finished. :shithappens: You've got a lot of modeling done there. Just spread out a whole lot. You've made me feed much better about have 6 or 7 kits 'in flight' Thanks At least they have served a purpose then. omg omg omg, there are more part builds here than in the rest of the world put together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!if you have space for unmade part builds you can store finished ones in there too There are more waiting to go into the 'cupboard of unfinished models' when some of these hit the end of the production line. Many more... Regards, Jens
Abacus Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 As much as I like the end result, getting there is much more enjoyable. Some great work there, alot of time and effort. So if it gave you pleasure along the way, none of that time was wasted......even if they never get finished.
CPNGROATS Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Wow, that's the best partially completed collection I ever seen...!!!! Perhaps partially built is a "new" art form... how do you keep track of the remaining parts..?? Cheers, ggc
Andrew Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 You have some lovely builds underway there Jens. I particularly like the F-104s and Drakens, but you could have guessed that. What markings will you use for the Danish 72nd Draken, or is the build paused while we wait for a good set in the smaller scale? Cheers, Andrew, whose collection of half-built kits is nearly as big.
Seahawk Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 omg omg omg, there are more part builds here than in the rest of the world put together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not while I'm around! Mind you, if mine were that nice, I might have been inspired to finish them. Nick
Simon G Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Yikes . . . thought I was bad having 3 or 4 on the go . . . . . Si.
IanC Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 They all have their own special reason...most of them probably because a new kit hit the building table. The latest ones stopped because of divorce and a move to a house that is nowhere near finished. :shithappens: There are reasons. And then there are reasons, eh? Sorry to hear that Jens.. Anyway, I do particularly like the Luftwaffe contingent, especially those 262s. Please put the wheels on! Best wishes Ian
FalkeEins Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 ...fabulous Luftwaffe stuff! ..I can see how you might have been derailed by personal probs, after all I guess we all tend to model when our heads are in a good place. I must admit I like to finish a build, clear the bench, dispose of the rubbish and the empty box, file any part-used decal sheets away, assign any spares to their correct tins...and start all over again!
timbo33 Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Blimey I thought I'd bitten off more than I can chew with 4 kits in progress....... You've got some work to do there Jens but once you get cracking I presume you'l be able to finish quite a few which will be satisfying - how on earth do you not lose/mix up the parts?
Jens Posted May 13, 2010 Author Posted May 13, 2010 As much as I like the end result, getting there is much more enjoyable. Some great work there, alot of time and effort. So if it gave you pleasure along the way, none of that time was wasted......even if they never get finished. That's basically how I see it too. That said, I do plan to actually finish my models, although some will never make it. Wow, that's the best partially completed collection I ever seen...!!!! Perhaps partially built is a "new" art form... how do you keep track of the remaining parts..??Cheers, ggc I don't think it's a new art form. Who here doesn't have partially completed models? The remaining parts are usually in the original box, but I have managed to misplace some parts in other boxes when I have had to clean up my modelling table. However, I can always remember what kit certain parts are from. You have some lovely builds underway there Jens. I particularly like the F-104s and Drakens, but you could have guessed that. What markings will you use for the Danish 72nd Draken, or is the build paused while we wait for a good set in the smaller scale?Cheers, Andrew, whose collection of half-built kits is nearly as big. Thanks Andrew. The two 1/72 Drakens are commission builds. The black one will have the kit decals, and the green one will have STODEC decals. The STODEC decals are not very well printed but that's what's available at the moment. The squadron badge will have to come from elsewhere though as STODEC will have you buy them separately. Not while I'm around! Mind you, if mine were that nice, I might have been inspired to finish them.Nick Thanks Nick. Hopefully putting them together in a cupboard like this will inspire me to finish them too. Yikes . . . thought I was bad having 3 or 4 on the go . . . . . Si. 3 or 4...that's what I have on the table at the same time. There are reasons. And then there are reasons, eh? Sorry to hear that Jens..Anyway, I do particularly like the Luftwaffe contingent, especially those 262s. Please put the wheels on! Best wishes Ian Thanks Ian. After the breakup I actually had a couple of months of inactivity. Modelling just wasn't fun anymore. Luckily the mojo returned some day and I got up to speed again. Once the house reaches a state that resembles civilised living I will return to modelling again. Until then it's 1/1 scale modelling I guess. Tha Me262s shouldn't take too much effort to finish as I have come a long way with them already. They might end up as the next ones finished. ...fabulous Luftwaffe stuff! ..I can see how you might have been derailed by personal probs, after all I guess we all tend to model when our heads are in a good place. I must admit I like to finish a build, clear the bench, dispose of the rubbish and the empty box, file any part-used decal sheets away, assign any spares to their correct tins...and start all over again! Thanks. I often use modelling for clearing my head too. Sitting there in my own little 1/48th scale world is really good for me. Some days the combination of a long run followed by modelling is the best! Blimey I thought I'd bitten off more than I can chew with 4 kits in progress.......You've got some work to do there Jens but once you get cracking I presume you'l be able to finish quite a few which will be satisfying - how on earth do you not lose/mix up the parts? I actually did that a late December a couple of years ago. I think I finished 6 or 8 models within a week. They all just needed the final touches (decals, clear coat, weathering etc.). That was quite satisfying but I haven't been able to repeat the success so far. Mixing the parts isn't a problem as I can remember which kit the parts come from. Losing them hasn't happened so far either, but I have misplaced them sometimes. If that happens I can always take the parts from another kit until I find the original ones. Regards, Jens
Dave Fleming Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 (edited) LOL! My shelves used to look like that, then I got married and had kids and they don't even get that far!! My usual reason for stopping a model was I got to a bit I didn't like or wasn't good at, so my modelling mojo would wane and I'd find something else to inspire me!! I do like your storage system though...... Edited May 13, 2010 by Dave Fleming
Tripehound Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 I admire your patience Jens - having that many models almost-but-not-quite built would quite possibly kill me. The PR Spitfire - is it very pale green or pink?
AdriaN (MLT) Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 (edited) and i have just 2 works in progress and 2 in the stash! Edited July 3, 2010 by AdriaN (MLT)

Jens Posted July 3, 2010 Author Posted July 3, 2010 and i have just 2 works in progress and 2 in the stash! I have more AFV Club F-5s in progress than that. Regards, Jens
Mark Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 (edited) Jens, I know exactly how you feel with respect to the loss of the modelling mojo and the effects that a relationship breakup and divorce has on the artistic area of the brain. It'll all come back though and boy when it does you just won't know when to stop!! Take care!! Edited July 3, 2010 by busdriver
