Bae Hawk GB

Recommended Posts

thanks Mish

heres the plan!!

any hawk goes but each one has to be a different serial number ie. xx304 to see if we can cover most of them, but i will extend the build to other nations and other models i.e. t60, 100 series, but every build MUST be of a different airframe, so we dont get 30 airframes of say the saudi hawk, you can do 30 saudi hawks but they must be all differnt airframes i.e. xx302, xx302 xx303 ect (yes i know saudi hawks dont have them serials), i hope this all makes sense! so what im saying is the 3rd place choice is the winner!!!

i hope everyone is happy with this,

Are we doing foreign users of the Hawk? If so could I enter with an Air Force of Zimbabwe Hawk T60 please (so long as there is a kit that pretty much looks like a T60, I know nought about Hawk models), lets say serial 600

Thanks Wayne

does anyone know why xx154 has a red canopy, was it replace with one from the reds?

xx154redcanopy-2.jpg

HAWKXX154.jpg

don't know if this had anything to do with it? Still not usual though for a raspberry ripple, though I am sure I have seen a pic somewhere of either a Red Arrows machine with a grey canopy or vice versa.

XX154 was the 1st, so it should definitely be on someone's list.

I've noticed the red canopy too, but given that there are plenty of examples of serviceable parts being borrowed from other aircraft I concluded it was just another example of this. Whilst in the ripple scheme it/she DID have a white canopy at some point - maybe there had been a particularly bad bird strike? I haven't seen a picture of "black with a black canopy" though... Someone here may know if there is a better reason for this than my suggestion.

Btw, originally XX154 had the shorter tailcone fillet (from the base of the rudder down towards the jet pipe) and has had various configurations of wing fence.

I would strongly recommend anyone on this GB to take a look at the Arthur Reed book (Modern Combat Aircraft 20). It contains good cockpit reference but also quite a few diagrams showing the Hawk's structure that will help with panel lines etc. Text is quite interesting too - especially about how the test pilot's test the cabin pressure warning system prior to delivery. Ouch!

Cheers, Kirk.

PS/ If any other rivet-counting types are about, any info on the stencil colours for the original red/white scheme or for ZA101/G-Hawk in it's VTX scheme would be well received. :)

I read in a review somewhere that the original release Matchbox Hawk had markings for XX154. I only made the Red Arrows release, and the later Hawk 200. Just making a mental list f things to look for at the Biggin Hill stalls this year. I have an original Airfix release but the decals are past it, not that it is impossible to make them up.
