Wow some nice Hawks in this thread, well done that man.

One tip to help with the bleed on your masking. When i mask say the white, before spraying the top colour on spray or run some white paint with a brush along the edge of the tape, this way if there is bleed through the white bleeds to the white and then hopefully seals the edge. Since I was told this it has helped me a great deal.

I though I would put a few Hawk pics here to inspire you!

These are a couple of my old prints scanned in;

RAF Training Scheme 1989

also check out this thread on ARC http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index....516&hl=hawk I posted some more there.

Keep up the Hawk work!

ok next one will be

XX280 of 79sqn 1 TWU RAF Brawdy in 1982, made from the revell kit with camo, and armed (not sure what with yet, i think too early for sidewinders so gun pack and possibily SNEB), decals from the xtradecal sheet

Nice choice Mark. I've always liked that DG/DSG wraparound camo. I've got a few of Airfix's old Hawks with SNEB pods in if you'd like some.

I don't know of any CBLS 100s apart from Flightpath's lovely resin jobbies but they're a bit expensive for me. The usual load for a TWU camo Hawk was 1 SNEB (Matra 155) and 1 CBLS plus the ADEN cannon pod. I have seen pictures with 1 SNEB pod under each wing and the cannon pod so that would work.

I think you're right about it being too early for Sidewinders. The War Role Programme to wire RAF Hawks for Sidewinders didn't produce the first 'production aircraft' conversion start until mid 1983 and was completed in 1986.

Scale Aircraft Modelling October 1983 has a pretty murky starboard side picture of XX280 in the scheme you're building. I can try scanning it if you like but I can see it carries the same roundel and fin flash, white 280 code in the same place on the fin and the same squadron bars either side of the fuselage roundel. It also has the TWU badge on the nose in the same place as the port side. The paint scheme demarcations look standard too.

Hope this helps.

this is how it works, the fisrt airframe to have 2 yes 2 pictures of it in the same scheem posted here is the one ill make (as long as there are decals avaliable) only one vote each

and not these ive alredy done them

Oh look, an Aardvark! (behind the camo hawk, an F from the Bolars - 492nd TFS, 48th TFW). I'm keeping an eye on this Mark, not too much mind, I'm close to seeing these things in my sleep, a place that's normally reserved for Tomcats!

Keep up the great work, I thought I was bonkers with my constant new starts!

Mark, I am going to do that one later on but not for the group build or anything. I'm building XX156 at the mo. The other airframe in the picture looks like 286 to me but I don't think it was painted in the special scheme. There's no fin stripe in the pic. The Modeldecal sheet only has XX159 so I'm guessing it was the only one. Perhaps 286 was the reserve airframe without the scheme?

XX159 has been a busy Hawk hasn't it?

yep im begining to have a problem, i have decals for all 3 of the 159 scheems, i know fly navy was on others so thats ok, hours was only on that one as was 30 years, so i can see me doing a few duplicates by my quick reconing that puts me up to nearly 200 and thats if they dont do any more!!

wow hold on a min the million hrs decals are for xx195 not 159 were there 2 or was that a mistake on the decals

How about this one:

Modeldecal sheet 91 has it.

Phil.

Yeah I used this pic when I made my version of this.. I am pretty certain this was taken at West Malling (I recognise the hard stands - honestly! :) ) I worked there for a bit before it was demolished :(

dont you think ive taken enough on with 183!!

Exactly! I'm sure you got enough to keep you going with one model per airframe. Are you sure you're not bringing your work home with you? ;)

I just wondered whether your state of mind had been affected by your work seeing as you're going to be building Hawks until I collect pension (if that nice Mr Osborne lets me have one in 22 years time)!
