Looking good Mark. Love the overall camo. How are you finding the quarter scale Airfix kit to be? Some people seem to think it should be burned instead of built but I think its a bit of alright.

Phil.

the 48's arnt that bad at a all the italreri are a lot better but for cost (this one cost £6.50) normally about £15 they are spot on, i have 2 more and i will get more, only problems i have noticed are the seams and the hacking of the flaps and my finger in the process

I guess 176 of them won't do cos you'll run out of fingers. :analintruder:

Other than that, each one is a lot of work but its an honest, cheap canvas for your favourite paint schemes.

i will stick with 72's on the whole as they are well frankly cheaper but a few 48's and several32's to come i think, i have at leat 20 72's in the stash and 4 48's

After seeing your progress I must really get back to my 1/48th Airfix Hawk, which has cost me a little more than £5.00 I paid for the kit so far!

This was the starting point-

Hawkkitbits.jpg

As far as I've got at the moment

Since the photo was taken, I removed the intakes and spine and replaced them with the excellent Two Mike correction set. I've done a few other small bits and bobs but the model is a bit patchy at the moment and would look a mess in photo's.

I started this long before the Italeri kit arrived and I've added detail which you get OOB in the Italeri model. :shithappens:

I like the look of the Italeri kit but the nose is too thin near the tip, I plan to cut the nose off and make a Hawk 128 with mine.

hello mark.

i'm building the old airfix kit and the matchbox one.

one will get the red and white scheme and the other one of the dark green and grey TWU schemes.

btw, the new airfix hawk T1A is out.

i've bought two of them and very nice it looks too. sprues are identical as far as i can see to the gift set version.

hope so but i think the greys too light

Yeah I think you're right Mark. I didn't notice before but I think you've used medium sea grey when it should be dark sea grey. Perhaps you can just go over those bits if you're that unhappy with it?

Thanks, i'll keep an eye out for that. Just got the new Airfx hawk (the black one) ordered from e-bay for £5.49 +p&p, seemed pretty cheap :D . While looking i saw a Tamiya 1/48th Swiss Hawk, description said 4 RAF markings and 1 Swiss, Didn't know Tamiya did one, is it a re-package of someone else's do you know?

Nice builds Mark, one thing worth noting about Grey/Green camouflaged Hawks, I seem to recall that the demarkation lines, on the wings anyway, tended to aligh with panel or flap lines. This was to enable cross-fitting of panels to different airframes. May be worth digging some colour pic's out....
