Mark M
thanks guys, i had found 285 but want convinced as the yellow strip in the middle underneath was missing in the pictures i found (and not in the model Jason found) was it added or removed at some point? if not its not the same one? Mark M
well ive started decaling, the xtradecal 'fly navy' decals are FAB!! but the MA 1 million hrs arnt they dont bend well and the white is very thin and you can see through it! oh and ive either messed up some how or the red nose decals are too small, ive had to paint a bit
Antony Robertson
Hi Mark I've just finished the Fly Navy plane and agree that the Xtradecals are brilliant to work with, and am just about to start decalling the million hour one in 1/48 scale using Blue Sky Decals. I've no idea if they're any good or not, but i'll try and get some pics on later today or tomorrow I can't believe the speed you're building these things now! Mark M
well all was going so well........... then ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH nothing major but ivr just realised there are no roundalls withthe 1million hrs decals!!!! now i have lots of others for other scheems but i dont want to steal them do i ?? no no ill have the same problem again... so shes on hold untill i can sort the decals - the xtradecal generic sheet are not the right ones, fingers crossed that the ones on the alley cat sheet are ok, cos that should be here in the next few days... anyway im off to meadowhell to see what i can find
Howard of Effingham
quick solution to the roundels problem mark is perhaps to treat yourself to xtradecal sheet 72-041. modern RAF roundels take a look. its a very useful sheet indeed and should help with your hawks quite a bit. PHIL B
Mark, How about Xtradecals roundels and stencil sheet 72068? I've got the 1/48th version which say the ones for black machines are 475mm in diameter full size which I make 6.6mm in 1/72. I've forgotten whether you already have this sheet. Phil. jasman71
cheers phil i got the alley cat sheet yesterday its fab (I WILL BE GETTING A LOT MORE) the roundalls are perfect, so im sorted for the time being I got two of them through the post today - yet to try them out but they look very good indeed. The white serials and tail codes will be very useful indeed, as will the lists of specific Hawks as used by the 3 squadrons - will certainly fill a few gaps! Mark M
now what next, im tempted to do one of the 1/48's for a change but i have the Bucc GB coming up and the WIF and the BoB so i may have to have a break from hawks for a while, im off and away most of next week so no modeling then its the GB's so the Hawks i think are on hold
Mark M
i broke..... i miss the hawks so much........... so...... i have decided i will build a WIF Hawk for the Wif GB it will be a Gulf War Hawk ok lets imagine there was a problem getting the Buccs out to the gulf to assit in laser desegnation of targets, the the MOD decided they needed a quick fix to take out ground targets at low level, the americans had run in to problems with sand and there A-10 fleet were struggling so the RAF used the only thing they had left that could fit the bill, Hawk T1'a outfitted with either bombs or rocket pots and cannon's they soon started to work on clearing tanks and AA instilations from low level the Hawk T1's were painted in the now customary ARTF pink and the ground crews applied there 'war' markings so thats the Wif Gb covered now my thoughts ran to the Buccaneer GB, and looking at my decals sheets i found the buccaneer decals for the 75th aniversary of 208sqn and now realising that i also had the decasl for the 90th aniversary 208sqn hawk i have decided to do a flying display model with them both on so being all hawked up again i was tyding the cupboard up i was sorting out the 1/48 kits and endied up making a big hawk cockpit! so from none im up to 3!! and 2 buccaneers!!!
