So AZ Models got it wrong then.

They're not the first, and won't be last, I'd like to bet. It's understandable, really, if they haven't got access to Hendon, and the Spitfire mods ledger. If an airframe survived the war, it's 100:1 that it would have had a modified door fitted, so would have been preserved with it. Cosford's "pre-war" Spitfire I has mid-war wings, with over-wing strengtheners; Tamiya produced a Mk.I Meteor with Mk.III wings; the list goes on, and will go on.

On the door 23-1-42; before that (3-2-41) beside the seat (right side,) and it could have been plain steel, bronze green, or black, never red (until post-war.)
