red glen
Hi does anyone know if the crowbar on the door of spitfires was added after the war or during. Thanks Glen.
Edgar
On the door 23-1-42; before that (3-2-41) beside the seat (right side,) and it could have been plain steel, bronze green, or black, never red (until post-war.) Edgar

Edgar
So AZ Models got it wrong then. They're not the first, and won't be last, I'd like to bet. It's understandable, really, if they haven't got access to Hendon, and the Spitfire mods ledger. If an airframe survived the war, it's 100:1 that it would have had a modified door fitted, so would have been preserved with it. Cosford's "pre-war" Spitfire I has mid-war wings, with over-wing strengtheners; Tamiya produced a Mk.I Meteor with Mk.III wings; the list goes on, and will go on. That is just the point I've reached on my BoB mark I. Trubbie
