IanC Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Hello I've started work on my 1/72 Lanc using the Revell kit. The cockpit is finished and I thought I'd post a few photos - first time I've done this - to let you see how it's going. I intend to finish the aircraft using the kit decals for LM739 'Grog's the Shot' of No. 100 Sqn, but without the yellow formation leader markings used for the Berchtesgaden raid. I removed the cockpit floor behind the skipper's seat, which isn't there in the real aircraft, lowered and brought forward the seat itself and thinned out the armour. I also added a trim wheel and parking brake, and made a fold-up seat for the flight engineer. Colours are based on the fuselage section of 'Old Fred' in the IWM, so only the bomb aimer's office is black. This may or may not have been the case with LM739, but this time round I'm determined not to get bogged down worrying too much about such things and just get on with the build! I elected not to use the kit decals for the panels, preferring to dry brush the moulded on detail instead. Though not very visible in the photos I used washes and a bit of dry brushing with metallic paint to give the interior a 'used' appearance. I hope to detail the turrets a bit and use Quickboost guns to replace the awful ones in the kit. Hopefully I'll have some more pics to show before too long.. Best Wishes Ian
Simon G Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Looking good so far, will be following with interest. Si.
IanC Posted April 24, 2010 Author Posted April 24, 2010 I forgot to add that I don't think I'm going to adjust the wing dihedral, which some have done, but I will be altering the sit of the mid-upper turret as that does look a bit odd to my eye. Ian
IanC Posted May 2, 2010 Author Posted May 2, 2010 I'm sure your bank holiday weekends won't be complete without seeing some shots of my Lanc. Progress has been glacial, as expected, and it's already had one prang when I dropped it on the patio yesterday during a sunbathing/plastic-sanding session. The fuselage cracked and all the bits inside started rattling around. Anyway, I've repaired the damage and discovered that you don't really need to glue the interior bits in before sticking the sides together. No, you can do it afterwards - using a head torch, tweezers and copious swearing!! TTFN Ian
daz greenwood Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Looking good Ian! You can never have too many Lanc's
crookedmouth Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 ...discovered that you don't really need to glue the interior bits in before sticking the sides together. No, you can do it afterwards - using a head torch, tweezers and copious swearing!! A new technique?! I shall have to try that.
Danny Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 You can never have too many Lanc's He's right! You never can have too many! Looks great so far I'm looking forward to seeing how you get on with the mid-upper Danny
IanC Posted May 9, 2010 Author Posted May 9, 2010 Looks great so far I'm looking forward to seeing how you get on with the mid-upper Danny Thanks Danny. Uh-oh, that sounds ominous - is there a fit problem? I know the shape isn't quite right, but I'm assuming if I just lower it a bit it'll improve the look of the thing. Or am I being overly optimistic? Ian

I didn't have any fit problems with mine. I did think the turret seemed a little high, but from certain angles I think the real thing seems high too. That's why I'm curious as to how much you intend on lowering it and seeing how it looks. Danny
