eng
Just a couple of quick pic's of this evenings productivity, another project wrapped. Can't actually remember when I started this it was a while ago!! Beaut of a kit, pretty much straight out of the box but added MA GR.4 FLIR and MA Anniversary decals. I modified the poor kit part for the thrust reverser mechanism by using the 4 1000lb bomb arming mechanisms vanes, thinned slightly and glued to a scrap of plasticard, to me this is a million times better than the kit part. I was disappointed that the crests on the fin silvered a bit despite lashings of Microsol/set and a gloss surface but it ain't too bad. Biggest schoolboy error was that the wings prob shouldn't have been swept but I figured that 4'000lb of iron on the belly pylons and those big tanks being empty it probably wont sit on it's a**e!! (I'm sticking to that story) Haven't weathered it as I figured a squadron anniversary jet will probably be quite well looked after. Just realised as well that I haven't added a GPS antenna on the spine either - oh the joys of looking at your pictures, all the flaws suddenly become glaringly apparent. Now to do the other 4 Anniversary jets from the MA sheet and a scruffy multi-coloured, dis-owned, unmarked Lossie jet! Will post more pic's tomorrow when I can get some natural light on it - PIC'S CHANGED, all comments and criticism welcome. Removed last nights pic's, these are slightly better....Thank's for all your comments Eng Edited December 13, 2010 by eng

eng
Thank's for all the positive comments folks. Overall my finishing has improved, this was brush painted with Xtracrylix and finished with Humbrol matt varnish out a rattle can and it's probably one of my better efforts in that respect. I resisted the temptation to un-mask the canopy straight after painting, but left it till all the varnishing was done There's a few thing's I should have done differently one being fitting the wingtip nav lights earlier in the build, not last minute, and finding out that Tornado's are rarely parked up with the wings swept AFTER I'd fitted them wasn't great. For weathering I should have coated with Klear after the decals were fitted but by that point I just wanted the kit completed (hence the lack of ALL the "No Step" markings as well) and I figured I could get away with a clean anniversary scheme. Airbrakes, probably should have been left shut as well. On the plus side I was rather pleased with my "blue" dummy 1000lb'ers as the splash of colour breaks up the grey, and also gave myself a pat on the back for correcting the nose gear by shortening the oleo. The base is maybe a tad small but was originally intended for my Airfix Islander, so I'll possibly change that again. Despite my need to clear a massive backlog of part built stuff I couldn't help myself and started my next Revell 1/72 Tornado half an hour before I went to work yesterday - DOH!!! Thank's again for all the kind comments, Eng
zipper
Very nice Eng indeed, your right about the wings being swept backed when parked, this is only for the GR version mind as it would be a tail sitter if they did, F-3's not a problem due to the longer nose. eng
Firstly sorry for dragging up an old thread of my own, here's my justification! I've always been pretty happy with this build and really enjoyed it (I've now more Revell GR.1's than I care to admit to), but I've always had the niggling knowledge tucked away at the back of my mind that it really shouldn't be on the ground with the wings swept. Well, for whatever reason, unbeknown to me, I walked into our spare room to pick a couple of reference books off the shelf and ended up picking this straight off the shelf. With no hesitation whatsoever I whipped all the wing stores off and, without wincing at all, pulled both wings forward (even when there was a bit of resistance that really should have meant "STOP"!) and there we are, error corrected!!! It's now all tooled up again and looks like this now - Begrudgingly I'll admit I do like it even more now! Eng
Duncan B
It looks really good, looks somehow more aggressive with the wings forward too!
Gajman
The Revell 1/72 Tornados are great and I like the way they keep re-issuing them with colourful schemes. Your build looks really good, well done. Gary

Love the "lets get this done" attitude !!! still a smart model and you just convinced me to go hunt for a kit myself (when I have some money at least I will...) Alan P
Clever lad (and brave too!)! Looks a lot more "right" now, i prefer that look to the swept back anyway. Al
mrcooljules
looks nice, like the training iron, as you said really breaks up the bland colour. i have a pile of these kits, metal and resin extras, not a fan of the aircraft u but i might just build one in the next year.....seems a waste to have them all unmade on my shelving.
