A Beau Pair!

This is what I have ben playing around with this last week. A couple of Hasegawa Beaufighters in 1/72. Both will be Mk X's, one with torpedo, and one with rockets, and both from Dallachy 1944/5.

I had one set of the Aries cockpit, so a different approach was needed for either model. In the end, I only used the cockpit tub and not the walls from the resin set, preferring to build these myself. All of the navigators' positions scratchbuilt.

Just got the instrument panels and control collumns to add, and they should be able to be buttoned up.

I think the scratch built one looks nicer than the resin one Len, nice work!

Jen.

Might have been 28 non-members? :P

Very nice Len ^_^

Could be because every time Len posts one of his creations I'm struck dumb in awe of his abilities, and he makes it look so bloody easy.

Great work as usual Len :worthy:

I have one of the Hasegawa Beau's on the pile along with an Aries set. I was just wondering how much you get into the accuracy thing- and if you have any praise/reservation regarding the Hasegawa kit?

I have no problems with the Hasegawa kit. The original issue had crap exhausts, but later boxings had decent white metal replacements. I am less sure of the Aries cockpit set. It is accurate enough in the pilots area, less so in the area just behind the main spar.

I always feel there are several pitfalls with any resin cockpit - if you fit them as intended, it makes the sidewalls look about 15 inches thick. The actual cockpit tub in the Aries set is a little narrow for the intended kit, but that could be due to shrinkage. I feel they shoud have given something for the navigator's position.

The Aries resin wheelwells for the Beaufighter are superb, and make a world of difference to the kit. It is a b*****d removing the kit mouldings, but worth it!

Well my take of Aries replacement stuff is that if you commit to using it you are "in for a penny in for a pound."

All Aries parts I have used have made it utterly vita lto thin both the plastic and resin to almost scale thicknesses, thereby causing a lot of extra work- but the result is always so rewarding..

Hi Len. First may i say what a great fan of your work i am becoming, your Stirling and Halifax are fantastic models of the highest order and i allways look forward to see what your building next.

As for the Beaufighters i am watching this one closley as i am building the Revell 32nd scale kit which lacks a lot of detail in the

cockpit and your work has given me the insperation to have a go.

Keep up the good work and i look forward to more pics
