spike7451
Hi Ho... Well,in an attempt to break the modelling rut I've been in over the past few month's ever since the disasterous GR4 with the bloody aweful AW decals,I went into the model shop yesterday & bought the above kit, did'nt want anything fancy or too complex & the canberra seems like a good, straightforward build I'm building it OOB,with maybe replacement seats or ones canabalised from the spares box.Might add some wireing ect in the cockpit although it looks like the is'nt much to see. OK,So started on the cockpit,I know they're not the correct seats but I've nicked a old seat from an Airfix Lightning & found another one that's similar in shape & size to do for the Nav's pit. As I'm opening up the entry hatch I'm moving the seat to it's proper position.. Edited April 13, 2010 by spike7451

(I'm doing this as a TELIC jet)Were wing tanks ever fitted during TELIC?Where's the correct location for the entry hatch & what can you see thru it? TRUSKY1965
Wonderful project, and wonderful plane! I think that your abilities like modeller are better than your photographer's ones That cockpit is awesome, with a fantastic detail. The seats are fantastic too. Congratulations! I'll look forward for your progress! Regards. TRUSKY1965.
atdb27
Good start Merv, As you have noted there are some good pointers from the various builds here on BM My main reminders would be 1/ Rudder PFCU housing/fairing on the port side. 2/ Engine outlets stbd one needs adding! 3/ Lower the Fuse letter box window to BELOW the Airfix panel line! 4/ Ailerons!!!!! 5/ Between fuse & engine there are 2 intakes on wing leading edges! 6/ Plates - depending on model/SerNo etc being modelled! BlackLight
Nice start spike detailed seats and cockpit. I built and old 1/72 Matchbox PR.9 with chilean markings posted here a week ago or so. The Airfix kit is quiet good, and with some scratch work you're gonna have a cool piece of work And for the pics try to use the macro-set in your camera so the images can be more clear BL. spike7451
Cockpit is nearly done,I added a jump seat at the rear, repositioned the Navs ejection seat & chopped up the instument panels a bit to make it a bit more 'realistic'.. Next job,the fusalage,I need to fill in a few panel lines & open up the entry door.I gather the Navs windows are too high.I'm in all henesty,in too minds weather to move them or not... As this is a kit to get my modelling mojo back,I dont want to overdo it. Merv ps,tried using the macro, still cant get the hang of the screen focus tingy...gimme an SLR anyday! kspriss
hiya merv. dont forget the crew entry door on the stbd side of the fuselage isnt there on the pr9...the canopy opens for the driver and the self loading ballast enters through the opening nose steve

Guess I should just fill in the panel lines then. Thanks Steveo! Merv, sorry Im late, got stuck gardening Anyways, Im not sure about the wing tip mods on the 9, but I know theres a BM member who was there with 39 Sqn, I just cant remember who AFAIK the tip tanks were not used, I havent seen them on 9's for donkeys years (not only that Fairyfix got the shape & size wrong anways LoL) Can you take a pic of the starboard side nose, I didnt have a 9 in my hands long enough before I swapped it out for another B2, because the 9 does have an upper starboard side equip bay above the sparky bay. Steve is correct about crew entry. The office looks pretty smart, although that extra seat shouldnt be up against the pressure bulkhead (typical Fairyfix know naff all about Canberras), but I doubt it will be seen (failing that just paint it black and it will vanish) HTH Bexy
spike7451
Right, well I've got the fusalage & wings on,bit (lot!) of filler &,as asked by Bexy,I've highlighted the panel lines on the nose. Next question....which bomb bay tray is the correct one for a 1990's PR9?....
bexwh773
Merv, you need both of those doors, on the 9, the Upper Equip Bay was moved to the side and the lower door you have highlighted is the electrical bay, that one has the inverters, ground power plug etc. Next question....which bomb bay tray is the correct one for a 1990's PR9?.... This Im not too sure as Im not too hot on the 9's but I'll do some digging ASAP :-) Bexy
spike7451
Cheers Bexy, OK,got the main fusalage & bit's put together with the wings, engine nacelles & nose, not too much filler has been needed on the main body, mainly around the cockpit area.Only sink mark's I've found so far are on the wing sides of the exhaust parts. Airfix dont tell you which flaps to use,the ones with the actuators? on the top or the ones without.I went with the former as they have actuator parts on the wing edge. So now onto the preshading, something I've never done before. As the top coat is Hemp,I'm thinking a dark brown pre-shade as I think black would be too dark.. Now the undercart, what coulour is it?The instructions say silver but pics I've seen suggest grey or white, same as the dropped flaps inside?... spike7451
Well, here are some of the shot's of the weathered & partly decalled jet.Looks like I'l going to have to re-decal some of the warning data cuz Airfix show them in dofferent places!
