Why is there a lot of text already there when I post?

That's an easy one. There are two types of Reply button. One that replies to a specific post and quotes that post (hence the text in your window), and another one at the top and bottom of each page that allows you to simply post without quoting anyone.

To recap, if you want to reply to a specific post from someone, while quoting their post for clarity:

Please though - don't quote hundreds of pictures. If you must quote long posts, just trim down the IMG tag enclosed picture references. You'll make us all very happy, and the thread a lot easier to read.

To simply add a reply to a thread:

Simple really, so there's no excuse not to get it right! :fight:

..and again, in concise form, thanks to Andy Mullen :)

The p_quote.gif button adds the quoted post to your reply box.

The p_mq_add.gif button allows you to select/toggle (changes the button p_mq_remove.gif), more than one post to quote, so that when you either hit p_quote.gif or the t_reply.gif it pulls all the posts you toggled together for you.

The t_reply.gif button just opens a blank reply box.
