Silver Fox
My wife bought me the Revell Harrier GR7/9 from the Modelzone sale and I can't work out which LERX it has. Is it 65% or 100? Thanks for looking
Neilroy
I have one of these and I'm almost certain they're the 65% LERX; 100% LERXs can be bought as aftermarket parts, however - i forget from where though

Silver Fox
Brilliant guys, thanks very much, I thpught I couldn't see the frog eyes on the sprues. Also the markings I like are for 65% LERX.

I've seen this term (frog eyes) several times when I was doing a search here for info on 1/72 Harrier kits. What does 'frog eyes' mean?

What does 'frog eyes' mean? IIRC and I could be wrong, the frog eyes two round inlets scoops on the top surface where you stick the fire extingusher if the engine catches fire. The bigger LERX blocks the pervious port which was in the wing leading edge.

If it's Revells Harrier GR Mk7/9 kit number 04581 look for "frogeyes" at W9 and W10. This kit is definitely 65% LERX.
xffw45343tg
With regard to the "frog eyes", whilst it is true that that is where you stick the extinguisher in the event of engine fire, their prime purpose is for cooling of the hot section of the engine. The ones for the cold end are the NACA submerged inlets in the cheek fairings. Silverfox, if you are modelling a GR9 with 65% LERX that is not ZD320 it should have frog eyes. This was necessitated by a wiring change from GR7 to GR9.
Jackman
Thanks for the 'frog eyes' reply, gents. I think I know what you mean: It's those air-scoop like thingies shown here: http://harrier.hyperlinx.cz/images/Lerx-7-T10.jpg http://harrier.hyperlinx.cz/images/Lerx-8-100.jpg http://harrier.hyperlinx.cz/images/Lerx-12-100.jpg cheers! My plan was to do ZD404 or ZD 437 based at Kandahar in 2007, from the Model Alliance sheet, wich were, according to the sheet GR7s with 65% LERX. Gosh Harriers are complicated aren't they!
