Jayfoe Posted April 4, 2010 Share Posted April 4, 2010 I really feel I'm getting into the spirit of this one: Parcel arrived on Thursday afternoon, got to look at it for 5 mins before being packed off for a weekend with the in-laws. Spent 3 days itching to get started knowing it was 2 hrs away. It was just like getting it as an Easter present but not being able to start it until you got home. Have now arrived back home and about to start, just going to pile in and start cutting and glueing! Hopefully I wont get paint on my bedroom carpet like I did many years ago. It brings back so many memories of it being 7pm on Sunday night and knowing I've still got my English homework to do! Anyway, like so many others I'll start with the box contents and tools: Obviously the nail file would have been stolen of my Mums dresser in the original 1980's build, however as I wouldn't dare steal Mrs Jayfoe's Nail file, that was bought specially! Don't forget to put noseweight in as it will sit on its bottom!Antony It's a fun build I enjoyed this kit decals are great (tho slightly opaque with grey just showing through the card emblem background which is a shame)...... we now have a Seahawk flight in the starter group build!! I tried using fishing weights and White Tack (that's the blob in the top middle of the photo!) Unfortunately I couldn't cram it all in so I've resorted to Aquarium Plant weight. Rather sadly, the poor piloty chap has had to have a double leg amputation just above the knee to give me enough room. If he can't take a joke he shouldn't have joined........... Jayfoe Posted April 30, 2010 Author Share Posted April 30, 2010 After an interesting evening watching the "children" argue on TV last night ( ) I have got the major components together. Had a couple of problems with gaps that would normally have needed filler, however I managed to get away with using the glue provided so they're all filled now. Deacon Posted April 30, 2010 Share Posted April 30, 2010 Jay, I built one of these this year for my dad and have another to do for myself. I made a mistake with the fuselage decals. The grey/white split of the camo shows through the decal. You may be already aware, but I was told afterward that perhaps putting white paint at those locations where the decals are to be placed would have helped. Jayfoe Posted May 1, 2010 Author Share Posted May 1, 2010 It's Finished! After an afternoon and evening of shattering decals the Seahawk is done! Quick update, I did need several more coats of white, eventually got bored of painting white after the 10th coat so have left it at that! The pic below is after about 3 coats and a bit of a seam sanding session after I realised you could still see it. <a href="http://s161.photobucket.com/albums/t230/Jayfoe/?action=view¤t=DSCF0090.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t230/Jayfoe/DSCF0090.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> Started the decaling with Decal no.1, which was the playing card on the forward fuselage. As soon as it went on the model I realised you could see the demarcation line between the white and grey underneath unfortunately I saw Deacon's post too late otherwise I may have tried a couple of coats of white, although with the state of the white paint it may not of helped. As I mentioned quite a few of the decals broke either in the water or when trying to position them on the aircraft. Additionally, one of the "Royal Navy" decals on the rear fuselage seemed to have some white gunky glue on it that wouldn't come off. I also noticed that the underwing registration numbers are swapped round, the ones on the port wing in the instruction need to go on the starboard wing and vice versa. This is because they have cut-outs for the wing pylons.
