F111Fan Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 (edited) This has just popped into my head-who'd be up for this? Any era, from the Handley Page 0/400 right up to the Tu-160... Probably need to be 6 months due to the large nature of some of these kits. Just want to guage interest! Edited April 9, 2010 by F111Fan
AnonymousDFB1 Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 A good idea, somewhere in this forum there is a thread about a HP/Bomber Command GB that didn't get too much support, you may want to see if you can get people that were interested in that one on board
Jazzy Jase Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 What do you class as a heavy bomber? Is a Wellington too small?
pigsty Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 This will need some care. Japan classed as "heavy" planes like the Ki-49 that could take no more than 2000lb of bombs.
F111Fan Posted April 9, 2010 Author Posted April 9, 2010 Hmmmm..... Never really thought... Would a poll be appropriate for the type of aircraft, do you think?
F111Fan Posted April 9, 2010 Author Posted April 9, 2010 What about a minimum bomb load based on the era? Or should it just be bombers? (But only true bombers-not fighter bombers!)
Mark M Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 i think you need to narrow it down , is a buccaneer a heavy bomber?
Jazzy Jase Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 What about a minimum bomb load based on the era? Or should it just be bombers? (But only true bombers-not fighter bombers!) Minimum bombload sounds like a good idea. Wikipedia has an article on Heavy Bombers. Not many aircraft in the list though: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavy_bomber World War One Handley Page V/1500 Interwar period Farman F.220 Handley Page Hinaidi World War Two Avro Lancaster Avro Manchester B-17 Flying Fortress B-24 Liberator B-29 Superfortress B-32 Dominator Handley Page Halifax Heinkel He 177 Petlyakov Pe-8 Piaggio P.108 Short Stirling Cold War Avro Lincoln Avro Vulcan Handley Page Victor Vickers Valiant B-1 Lancer B-36 Peacemaker B-52 Stratofortress Tupolev Tu-4 Tupolev Tu-95 Tupolev Tu-160 Post-Cold War B-2 Spirit
F111Fan Posted April 9, 2010 Author Posted April 9, 2010 Right, I shall change it to Bomber then-but no fighter bombers, so yes, a buccaneer would classify
Jazzy Jase Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Right, I shall change it to Bomber then-but no fighter bombers, so yes, a buccaneer would classify In that case, count me in with my Trumpeter Wellington
F111Fan Posted April 9, 2010 Author Posted April 9, 2010 Cool, that's 1 then! Only 14 to go-anyone else?
Jazzy Jase Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Cool, that's 1 then! Only 14 to go-anyone else? Surely it's 2 unless you're not going to enter your own GB???
F111Fan Posted April 9, 2010 Author Posted April 9, 2010 Surely it's 2 unless you're not going to enter your own GB??? Oh god-of course! Mine wil be (I think) a Revell 1/72 B-1B
pigsty Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Easiest way to police this, then, is to give an outline list, then allow people to suggest new additions and update the list accordingly. Moderator's word would be final.
Mark M Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 i will be in but i have a few too choose from: b-52 bucc (several) ?a-10 let me know and ill do they all!!!!
F111Fan Posted April 9, 2010 Author Posted April 9, 2010 (edited) Ok thanks to Wikipedia, here is an edited list of bombers that could be used from post WWII-suggestions are welcome, but I have ruled out prototypes, maritime and fighter-bombers: France Dassault Mirage IV (strategic bomber) Dassault Mirage 2000N People's Republic Of China Harbin H-5 (medium bomber) Tu-4 Bull (strategic bomber) Xian H-6 (medium bomber) United States B-36 Peacemaker (heavy bomber) B-47 Stratojet (strategic bomber) B-50 Superfortress (strategic bomber) B-52 Stratofortress (strategic bomber) B-57 Canberra (bomber) B-58 Hustler (strategic bomber) B-66 Destroyer (light bomber) Northrop B-2 Spirit (stealth bomber) Rockwell B-1 Lancer (strategic bomber) USSR/Russia Ilyushin Il-28 (medium bomber) Myasishchev M-4 (strategic bomber) Tupolev Tu-4 (strategic bomber) Tupolev Tu-16 (strategic bomber) Tupolev Tu-22 (medium bomber) Tupolev Tu-22M (strategic bomber) Tupolev Tu-95 (strategic bomber) Tupolev Tu-160 (strategic bomber) Yakovlev Yak-26 (tactical bomber) Yakovlev Yak-28 (tactical bomber) United Kingdom Avro Lincoln (heavy bomber) Avro Vulcan (strategic bomber) Blackburn Buccaneer English Electric Canberra (bomber) Handley Page Victor (strategic bomber) Vickers Valiant (strategic bomber) Also, who has a good knowledge of WWII and WWI bombers? I don't know much about them, to be honest Edited April 9, 2010 by F111Fan
bexwh773 Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Ay up Tom, Add me to your list, provisionally either a Canberra, B29 or a Lancaster............ Oh speaking of Canberra's, they can be a bit complicated, nowt is ever simple in Canberra Land......... so you need to remove the Recon bit from your list and just leave it as Canberra Bomber as that simplifies it (well in a Canberra Anoraks world anyways ) Bexy
F111Fan Posted April 9, 2010 Author Posted April 9, 2010 Duly edited Bex! Welcome aboard-I count 4 now, 11 to go
CliffB Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Me too please. I can offer an 'Ilya Muromets' - always assuming all the bits are there (bought secondhand, no box etc etc.....) Cliff
pigsty Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Here's a few from around WWII to be going on with: Avro Lancaster Avro Manchester Bristol Blenheim de Havilland Mosquito (bomber variants only) Fairey Battle Handley Page Halifax Handley Page Hampden / Hereford Short Stirling Vickers Warwick? F111Fan Posted April 9, 2010 Author Posted April 9, 2010 Thanks for that sean-very useful indeed! Are you in as well then?
Mal Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 If you are including the Mosquito, I'll just have to join. Malcolm
Giorgio N Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 (edited) Now, although I'll probably not take place in the GB (no bombers planned for this year), I can add a few italian WWII bombers that have not been mentioned yet: Fiat Br.20 (italeri in 72 and the new special hobby in 48) Cant Z.1007 (supermodel in 72, resin in 48) Sm.81 (supermodel in 72) Sm.79. Yes, it's better known as a torped carrier, but was originally a bomber and served as such starting in the spanish civil war (several kits in 72 and 48). And a couple of "borderline" subjects that might not fit too well in the spirit of the build: Cant Z.506.. true, it had floats and was mainly an antiship plane, but was classed as a bomber (supermodel in 72) Ca.311 actually a recce plane, but served as a light bomber (italeri in 72) Edited April 9, 2010 by Giorgio N
