NinjabreadMan Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 (edited) Hi all. Im a newcomer to the Britmodeller forum, but after having a look around I decided to join and solicit some help for my newest kit, the Zvezda Sd. Kfz 251/10 halftrack with 37mm gun. I have made a couple of 1/35 kits in the past, (not to any great skill level and for my own enjoyment) but thought that if even 1% of the ability of some on here rub off on this build then its going to look great! Also bear with me as I learn the ropes of using the forum, and advice on this is also very welcome. I will be getting down to starting the kit next week(ish) and should be able to take photos then aswel, and am looking for info on the subject and ideas for a diorama if anyone has anything? All I can find reallyare this photo which seems to have influenced the box art somewhat: and and a nice build review here: http://www.armorama.com/modules.php?op=mod...1458&page=1 Any and all comments are helpful, and Il start as soon as I can...... Guest snipersmudge Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 looks like the link in your post has all the reliant info you need for this kit, do you intend to brush paint or airbrush? The real vehicle was an early field mod to give anti tank crews more mobility and cross country capability. I think these where mostly seen in Russia. Nice subject picture too like the chaps in the back would look great if you could recreate it. Oh and welcome to the forums old bean! Pete
Mike Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 aboard - heed Smudge's words, for he knows of that which he speaks
NinjabreadMan Posted March 29, 2010 Author Posted March 29, 2010 (edited) Thanks The build review was a good help, lets see if mine comes anywhere close to that.... Looks like a paintbrush job, as I am still to purchase a useable airbrush (the budget one I got off ebay just sprayed one angry blast of paint and proceded to vent a whole can of propellant everwhere!!!! ) and funds are non existant really. It was given as a xmas gift as a halftrack to compliment a Dragon Nashorn that I was building, (which im very proud of and hopefully will get some pics up soon) but the timeframes dont match and the dio for that is now finished anyway.......thinking something Kursk'y maybe?? Do you know if anyone does halftrack figures like in the photo, ive seen some generic ones around but non that really go with the pak 36? And I saw some of smudge's work, and the awesome kits he's done, one of the reasons I joined Britmodeller!! Anyway, il post updates and pics when I start construction Cheers Edited March 29, 2010 by NinjabreadMan
daz greenwood Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 I have some info on the SdKfz 251/10 if you need it!
NinjabreadMan Posted March 29, 2010 Author Posted March 29, 2010 Il take it if you have it, though backgroud information is more help than kit accuracy pointers......just completing the kit is good enough for me! A pretty much OOTB build for me
daz greenwood Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 I have a bit on the SdKfz 251 series. I'll look out what I have.
Guest snipersmudge Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 figure wise try dragon, they do some nice halftrack figure sets, try these guys http://www.netmerchants.co.uk/ very good service and fast delivery. Glad you like my builds and have inspired you, any help you need just get in touch Pete
daz greenwood Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 (edited) Right the info I have comes from Panzer Tracts. And the 251/10 were assigned to Platoon Leader's to provide support to the other 251's in the unit. They had a crew of 6, and carried 168 rounds for the PaK 36. I do have drawings, but they are copyrighted. So unsure about posting them! HTH Edited March 29, 2010 by daz greenwood
Mike Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 I do have drawings, but they are copyrighted. Your spider-sense was right Daz... copyright material can be posted, but you'd have to seek the copyright holder's permission first.
NinjabreadMan Posted March 29, 2010 Author Posted March 29, 2010 Yeah, I had read about the platoon commanders vehicle getting the 37mm. The crew of 6, would that be the Commander, Radio op, driver and 3 Gunners? Thanks for the link smudge, I thought that these figures wouldnt be difficult to get similar to the photo http://www.netmerchants.co.uk/product.php/...n_infantry_1943 , instead of leaning on weapons/helmet can have arms over the sides, and I like the idea of keeping the other one pointing whilst the commander checks the map.... Its really coming together!! but i think i should get the thing made before I start crewing it!!
daz greenwood Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 6 crew=driver, radio op (co-driver), loader and 2x gunner's.
NinjabreadMan Posted March 29, 2010 Author Posted March 29, 2010 No commander? Or does he work as a gunner too?
daz greenwood Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Ooops forgot the commander, who also served as a gunner (if needed).
Deon Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Will you be removing the top part of the gun shioeld like in the photo?
NinjabreadMan Posted March 29, 2010 Author Posted March 29, 2010 Im not sure, im thinking that I might, otherwise the whole thing will be massively tall. That is all unless there is some problem with me doing that within the kit, (I dont have it with me atm unfortunately ) in which case simplicity and ease will win out..... Do you have any info on doing that, or whether it was common practice to do so? I would have thought so, its a bit of a 'shoot me now!' silhouette
Guest snipersmudge Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 (edited) if you look here, http://i372.photobucket.com/albums/oo166/m.../DSCN0839-1.jpg you will see that there is a slight line on the a quarter of the way down from the top off the gun shield a simple case of score with a fresh scalpel blade and snap off then clean up should work well Edited March 29, 2010 by snipersmudge
NinjabreadMan Posted March 29, 2010 Author Posted March 29, 2010 Spooky, I was just looking at the very same thing!! Thats the plan then, its turning into a nice little project this......hope im not overfacing myself!!

I would have thought so, its a bit of a 'shoot me now!' silhouette the other option is to fold the shieldtop over the frontas was often done when ground mounted, that way you have the option 'put it down to help hide or for better vision, and put it up when the wind's blowing in your face or when you need to light a ciggy' i found a cracking site.. gooogle ' Lovett artillery' Edited March 30, 2010 by Deon
