I'm only aware of those 2 kits in plastic. I'm sure someone did/does a large range of resin ones, including hovercraft and converted landing craft, but who it was escapes me.

As to the two kits, the Dragon LSSC is a special forces insertion craft, used to carry a 3 or 4 man SEAL team up river, and is small, low, fast and lightly armed, and generally only seen at night. It would have tried to avoid firefights where possible.

The Tamiya PBR is a larger craft overall, used for general patrol work, and heavily armed (compared to the LSSC). It also makes for a more impressive finished model, especially if you do one post-firefight and litter the deck with spent 50 cal cartridges! The Tamiya kit probably has a better fit of parts - I don't remember any problems with my part-built one (must finish that someday), but I've only dry-fitted the Dragon kit.

All this is from memory, I used to know a lot more as it was one of my pet interests, but I've forgotten most of it now.

Obi-jiff is correct. The PBR is the only Riverine combat kit of the two and is a decent kit. Masterpiece Models do several of the larger craft in 35th and they are priced like it. Great kits but you pay for what you get. You can see them here

I would love to do a Monitor in 72nd scale or any of the craft in that scale.

Hello everyone,

I am looking for info, in particular any plans or even just basic diagrams of the French STCAN/FOM Riverine Patrol Boat used on the rivers in Vietnam during the first Indochina War 1946-54. The craft was also known as the ‘Vedette FOM 11m’, it is 11 metres in length and there was a shorter 8m version.

I do have photo’s of a model made some time ago but don’t know who made it plus I already know of the ‘Indochine54’ website which only has basic info and a photo.
