Mike
WWII US Navy Catapults, WWII US Navy Anchors, WWII Hanging ladders, WWII US Navy Cranes 1:700 Lionroar These sets will be a welcome addition to the ship builder wanting to either scratchbuild or upgrade an existing kit in this scale, without spending too much on dedicated sets. The sheets are generic in nature, and should be useful for a good number of kits, used sparingly and depending on the subject you are modelling. The two generic sets are very simple but useful, and can be used ad hoc on WWII US Navy vessels to replace chunky or non-existent kit items. The are very delicate and like all Photo Etch parts, should be cut on a hard surface with a sharp blade. Great little sets, and nicely done - For example, the anchors fold over so that you have true 3D pieces, not just flat single sided approximations. The other two sets are extremely finely detailed, and contain some of the nicest parts I've seen in any scale. They include different types of cranes with fine girder details in one set, and the instructions even tell you which class the cranes should be used on. The Catapult set contains parts for 1 stern catapult, two fast cruiser catapults, and one turret catapult. It even includes some props, glazing framework, interplane struts and float struts for various types of shipborne floatplanes, which is a nice bonus. Conclusion The detail on these sets is amazing, and should busy up your 1:700 kits nicely. Airbrush painting will be a must though, to avoid losing all that lovely detail under paint. Highly recommended to fans of the genre. Review sample courtesy of:
Obi-Jiff Kenobi
Hi Mike, nice review. Can you tell me if the instructions state that any of the cranes are suitable for the USS Arizona, please? Obi-Jiff
Mike
The sets include parts for Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Iowa, South Dakota class warships Jeff, so as long as I'm right in saying that the Arizona was Pennsylvania class, you should be able to use it - in fact, the Pennsylvania class gets the most value from the set
Obi-Jiff Kenobi
You are indeed right, Mike, she was a Pennsylvania class. Obi-Jiff
