Fifer54
I'm building a Toko 1/72 Hansa-Brandenburg W29 for the Great War GB, and I need to apply lozenge camo to the upper surfaces. There are decals provided with the kit, but I'm a little uncertain of how to use them! Do I just treat them like any other decal, or are there any special techniques involved? I've sanded down the wing surfaces to reduce the rib effect, and restored the surface. Now, I know I need a gloss surface to apply the decals to, can I get away with applying gloss varnish (whether from Humbrol or Revell, or Microscale straight to bare plastic, or do I need a primer coat of paint? When they're applied and dry, do I need to seal the edges with a varnish coat, or should I paint the entire surface with a matt coat to finish it? Should I use setting solutions with these decals? Sorry to go on so much, but I've never used these sort of "whole surface" decals and I feel a complete and utter !
Deon
Mad Nurse Gaz Id coat the airframe with a primer for sure, then a nice shiny gloss coat. let it cure for 24 hrs, give it a dust then apply your lozenge with micro sol/ set or Mr Mark Softer (test it out on a bit of spare first), but be sure to check the orientation, some of them need to be applied diagonally . Most of all , take your time and leave sections to dry overnight if neccesary. wear cotton or latex gloves( without chalk) - to save leaving fingerprints onyour soft and settling decals. Once its all done you might have rib tapes to apply, so start all over again!
Fifer54
Thanks very much for that. It seems as though it's like I thought, just treat them as normal decals, only big and awkward! Watch my build thread in the Great War GB for progress!
