Pappy
G'day people, Here is my recently completed 1/72 Fujimi Sabre. The kit began life as an F-86F-40 with J.A.S.D.F decals. I built it as a JG74 Canadir Sabre Mk.6. This required shortening the wingtips. In addition, the following mods were carried out: [*]The auxilliary air intake "sugar scoops" were added [*]The fuel filler port on the left fuselge was filled in, a replacement panel was scribed on the right [*]the two landing lights under the intake chin were added [*]fin caps were added to the drop tanks [*]the ejection seat got new belts and a new headrest I used the Flightdecs decal set. Jabo31
Hello! A reel nice looking JG71 Bird and it was built on a high level, congratulations. It`s good to some german a/c here on britmodeler, but let me say one word. I have found a little mistake, but the model will be done great, with or without that. The JG71 never used the sidewinder and the rails on it`s a/c. In some a/c publications I read that only the JG73 used this armament for intercepter missions. I hope I will see more a/c models from you, looks like the real one. Cheers, Udo.
Pappy
G'day Jabo! Thanks very much for the kind words and thanks for the advice. I wasn't sure about postwar Luftwaffe colours. The decals sheet specified 'silvergrau' for the underside. I originally thought this to be a matt aluminium or aluminium dope, but some fellow modellers suggested that it was actually a light grey. I chose FS 36375 (light ghost grey),but I am still not 100% convinced. I would appreciate your opinion in this matter. The decals sheet also specified yellow wing tips but also stated that there was an element iof doubt about those as well. I chose to paint the wing tips yellow as per the decal sheet. I would like to build Erich Hartman's Sabre in 1/32, so the information about the sidewinders is helpful. I am thinking of doing the natural metal machine. cheers, Pappy
Pappy
G'day Daz, Thanks for the kind words. I don't believe it was Hartman's 'personal' mount, as this usually carried the JA-111 code. It is however his Squadron. Hartman's aircraft appeared in two schemes, a camouflage version and a natural metal machine, both with the black tulip markings, cheers, Pappy Thank you everyone for the kind words. Hopefully I will have soem more kits to present in the near future, cheers, Pappy

Pappy
Very nice job , Fujimi do some great 1/72 stuff. Never used Flightdecs before, how did they handle?Gary G'day Gary, The decals were pretty good. They have excellent register and colour density and were very glossy. They were a little on the thick side though, similar to normal kit decals. I found they reacted well to the micro sol/set decal system. The decals also included the red fin portion but not the red area around the intake. To avoid a possible colour matching issue, I sliced away the red portion of the fin decals prior to applying them. I painted the red areas (over a white base) beforehand and masked these off before spraying the camo, chees, Pappy
