Tony Whittingham
Hello All, I have come across a thing called a "Vitochart" It's a trifold card with paint chips thereon, and a separate mixing guide for the then known brands of paint. the titile is "Colour standards of the Ministry of the Aircraft Production (sic)" and the copyright date is 1978. the mixing sheet is titled with a Vitochart logo, superimposed on a globe, and a statement as follows " From Albion Scott Ltd, York Road, Brentford, Middlesex. could anyone say whether these chips and mixing guide might be close to the mark as regards colour matches? For example, EDSG has the following mixes: easy: humbrol no. 79, expert: humbrol 79, authentics 3pts HB7, 1 pt. HU3. There's even a recipe for PR Mauve. Otherwise, it seems to be an interesting historical document. Any comments or suggestions?
Giorgio N
Can't comment on those dedicated to the RAF colours, but they can be a very interesting and useful document when it comes to the colours used by the Italian Regia Aeronautica during the war. Here is a translation of an article previously written in italian on the subject. http://www.stormomagazine.com/Articles/NewColoursRA.html The author used to work at Fiat and some of the chips were based on paint taken directly from the production line.
