Devilfish
Anybody know if there's going to be a decent kit of the Defiant ever? The old AMT one was awful a now it's rare its ridiculously expensive for what it is!
Obi-Jiff Kenobi
I reckon the AMT will be re-issued before long, but I think it's less likely that we'll get an all-new kit. I hope someone surprises us though. If Revell's new Trek kits sell well, they might decide to do some from the other Trek franchises, and with DS9 the Defiant is perhaps going to be more popular with modellers than a new Runabout or DS9 itself. Fingers crossed, eh?
Smiffy
Starship Modeller have the BoP, Ent-B, Reliant and Romulan BoP in stock now. LINKY
Paulbo
I picked up the Reliant and Klingon BoP at the LHS. The landing gear for the BoP is pretty darned slick - unfortunately the gear bays and landing ramp area are completely undetailed ... for now
chadders
You got any goodies coming up for em Paulbo?
Paulbo
I will, Chadders. The kits are on the bench and I just have to finish up a couple of other minor projects and I'll be starting on them within the week. I expect to have some solid news by mid-week next week. GreenDragon
Round 2 have finally admitted the kit of the JJ Enterprise from the 2009 Trek film is cancelled. http://www.collectormodel.com/round2-model...s-s-enterprise/ An announcement on the fate of the 1/350th original series Enterprise is supposed to happen around May14th-15th in Louisville, Kentucky, at WonderFest. http://www.collectormodel.com/round2-model...stion%e2%80%a6/ Some old news here but I don't think anyone posted it here yet, the Aztec decal set for the 1/350th Refit kit should be available now and it has some extra decals with other ship names and numbers as well as the Enterprise. They are supposed to be improved since first issued in the refit repop. http://www.collectormodel.com/round2-model...t-at-long-last/ Paul Harrison
Obi-Jiff Kenobi
Round 2 have finally admitted the kit of the JJ Enterprise from the 2009 Trek film is cancelled. I can't say I'm bothered, I didn't like the film or the redesigned Enterprise, but I do find this news interesting. The film did quite good business, by all accounts, and a sequel is in production, which would boost sales of the kit once it hit cinemas. Maybe someone else will take up the licence for the new film - perhaps Revell, as they have dipped a toe in the water with this year's original Enterprise and Klingon cruiser. GreenDragon
I was wondering if the second movie has a re-redesigned Enterprise and so Round 2 might have been waiting to do the newer version in line with new film? The statement does sound like it's completely ditched though. Don't like the JJPrise myself but surprised they didn't go ahead with the kit as they'd done all the research and did have the majority of it prototyped. Saw some pics of what looked like rapid prototyped parts just before they removed all reference to it on their website. Paul Harrison
F-32
That's a shame, I was looking forward to the JJPrise.....................I'm pretty sure they'll be a resin limited run by someone soon - if there isn't already. Out of interest, does anyone know if you can get landing gear for the Revell Voyager?
Obi-Jiff Kenobi
Out of interest, does anyone know if you can get landing gear for the Revell Voyager? Not seen any, but I've not really looked. Have you tried Starship Modeler ?
BWP
Maybe someone else will take up the licence for the new film - perhaps Revell, as they have dipped a toe in the water with this year's original Enterprise and Klingon cruiser. What licences Revell DE do or do not acquire won't make any difference to what Round2 does or does not do in the US. Different regions, different licences. In any case it's probable that the licence to do stuff for the new film(s) is a different licence from that for the ST: TOS ships. That may or may not be a different licence to the old films, and in any case is a different licence to ST: Voyager (which Revell DE already has). So I guess it boils down to how much cash Revell DE want to outlay vs. what they think they will get in returns. Given that (unfortunately) Round2 is bumbling a bit with "new mold" stuff (as opposed to reissuing the old AMT molds, which I think they're doing a stellar job with) I think new kits of any ST subject from Revell DE would be very warmly welcomed. Now, if they can keep them to one or two consistent scales (unlike their Star Wars kits), all would be well with the world.

Mind you, they're similarly sized craft, so it makes sense to do them to the same scale. We'll have to see what, if anything, they follow them up with. Smiffy
Out of interest, does anyone know if you can get landing gear for the Revell Voyager? Someone has done a set of resin ones in the past, but can't remember who it was. Would be worth asking over at Starship Modeller. They are bound to know and maybe someone would have a set to sell you.
Cimmerian
I was in modelzone yesterday and they had the repopped reliant and BoP (with landing gear) in there: £51.99 and £41.99 respectively.
mrvr6
why do they pick scales out of thin air? why not stick to 1/350 or 1/700 etc?
Cimmerian
The BoP supposedly is 1/350 - as to the Reliant's scale and the other AMT movie era stuff, - beats me!
Obi-Jiff Kenobi
The Reliant is scaled to match AMT's movie-era Enterprise. Why that scale was picked for the Enterprise I don't know, but I suspect it was chosen to be 1. larger and more impressive than the original TV Enterprise kit (1/650), and 2. still a managable size and price. GreenDragon
Not certain but I think the movie Enterprise and Reliant kits are 1/537th scale and I seem to remember AMT wanted the Enterprise kit to be 22 inches long so that was why they got the 1/537th scale. marty_hopkirk
why do they pick scales out of thin air? why not stick to 1/350 or 1/700 etc? Scale in reality is a mute point and something often guessed at by the fanboys. The reality is scale should be really be a percentage reduction or increase of the filming miniatures. The filming miniatures varied in size to suit the individual shots they were designed for. Therefore it is no surprise there will be variance in size of the models. Marty...
