Round 2 Star Trek kit update

Recommended Posts

Round 2 has encountered a problem with the repop of the AMT Enterprise D so it's cancelled for the moment. To fill the gap they planned to repop the Excelsior or Enterprise B but there may be problems finding all the parts so they are also thinking of repoping the Reliant. All these moulds are being sent to their factory for test shots. http://www.collectormodel.com/

Wouldn't mind a Reliant but the two clear stands that you had to sit it on were really crap. The stand on the the Excelsior/Ent B kits was crap too, so much as breathe in it's general direction and it wobbled around like a drunk hula dancer!

Latest news is the Enterprise D will be re-released in the rumoured clear edition (should save a LOT of time without the need to drill fibre optics holes like I had to!). Also due for repopping are the K-7 Space Station, Klingon Bird of Prey and the USS Reliant, all ex AMT moulds. Round 2 said that the Enterprise D may have some detail alterations a few months ago.

All good news. I'd like all these kits, particularly the Enterprise D. I bought a resin conversion for the 3-engined version from the series finale, 'All Good Things...' many years ago, and have yet to buy the base kit to use it with!

Latest news from Round 2 is here. http://www.collectormodel.com/

Main news is the AMT Klingon Bird Of Prey is getting a major overhaul. The inaccurate wing angles will be fixed with new Wing Baffles that will also allow for the fully raised landing mode, there will be a set of landing gear (as in Star Trek III), a boarding ramp and a new dome shaped stand that has got to be better than the stupid spindly thing that came with the original kit.

Due November. http://www.round2models.com/models/star-trek/klingon-bop

Also altered is the USS Reliant with the saucer made thicker, ridges removed, bridge dome accurised and a Dome shaped stand to replace the two clear things that were stuck under the nacelles of the AMT issue, due September. http://www.round2models.com/models/star-trek/reliant

The repop of the AMT 1/1400th Enterprise D is in clear styrene with full aztec pattern decals and some fit tweeks (that I don't remember from the four builds i've done!) and is due in July. http://www.round2models.com/models/star-tr...erprise-d-clear

The K-7 Space Station is due this month and is a straight repop of the AMT kit with new decals with alternate numbers if you don't want it as the K-7. Apparently too much would be required to make this accurate so no changes except for a new dome shaped stand. Tin box issue will have Tribble in it. http://round2models.com/models/star-trek/k7-space-station

The old AMT Romulan Bird Of Prey is being updated with a new stand, the Plasma Weapon on the front of the ship and optional nacelle domes. Tin box issue will have a print of the boxart.

The 1/2500th Enterprise from the new movie is due in November. http://www.round2models.com/models/star-trek/new-enterprise

Also in 1/2500th is the triple set of Kirks TV Enterise, the Refit and the Ent.B due June. http://www.round2models.com/models/star-tr...-enterprise-set

Also spacey but not Trek is the ex MPC 1/100th Pilgrim Observer due in November. http://round2models.com/models/mpc/pilgrim-observer Looks an excellent kit!

The ex Aurora 1/32nd 1966 Batmobile should be available in the Staes now as the kits have arrived at Round 2's warehouse. http://www.round2models.com/models/batman/66batmobile

The new 1/25th scale Batmobile mock up should on show at Wonderfest in the States on May 15th.

The Glow in the dark Munsters Living Room kit is due out now http://round2models.com/models/polar-light...ers-living-room and later there will be a tin box of the Munsters Koach and Drag-ula cars.

Also coming will be the Glow version Hunchback Of Notre Dame, the 1970's Bigfoot creature and the Guilotine (now with working blade!).

Think that's everything.

Round 2 have recieved castings of the metal landing legs for the Klingon Bird of Prey and some pics of the new ramp parts. http://www.collectormodel.com/round2-model...-legs%e2%80%a6/

The old Guilotine kit has been updated with the head of the guy getting the chop held on by magnets so you can lop his knapper off easily! http://www.collectormodel.com/round2-model...-head%e2%80%a6/

Some old news you've probably heard already. The Enterprise B kit is ok but there will not be a repop of the Excellsior as the moulds were permanently changed by AMT.

There may be a very slight chance of retooled Excellsior parts in the future.

Didn't AMT mod the Excelsior to make the Enterprise B?

Yeap, that's why there's no Excellsior repop. Round 2 originally thought there may have been a removable section of the tool or an entire seperate tool of the Excellsior but after an extensive search nothing turned up in the tooling warehouse. They eventually tracked down one of the ex AMT tooling guys who confirmed they were told to convert the Excellsior to the Enterprise B to save money. Round 2 has a limited tooling budget and at the moment it seems Excellsior would cost too much out of other projects budgets that they reckon would make more money.

A bit of a surprise today, the Enterprise B will NOT be just a repop of the AMT kit. Round 2 have done a lot of accurizing tweaks to the mould and will be including decals for the USS Lakota. http://www.collectormodel.com/round2-model...b-improvements/

Something odd has happened over at Round2. All reference to the NuTrek JJ Enterprise has been removed from the site. Lot of guesswork on Statrship Modeler about it, latest news is there is supposed to be an "explanation soon". http://www.starshipmodeler.net/talk/viewtopic.php?t=88865

Seems most of the kits that were announced for late 2010 should be in US shops sometime in February 2011 including the reworked Klingon Bird of Prey and MPC Pilgrim Observer. March and April should see the Gene Simmons from Kiss, Spiderman and Barnabus the Vampire from Dark Shadows kits, later will be the new Batmobile kit (1/25th 1960's TV Version) and mid year should be the fully restored kit of the Leif Erickson and a Klingon Battle Cruiser (prob the old AMT kit). Apparently they are repopping the 1/16th General Lee from Dukes of Hazzard at some stage too but I've got the original kit in the stash so I don't need one! http://www.collectormodel.com/

No loss to me, I hated the redesign, but it's always disappointing when a kit doesn't appear.

I have seen some speculation that the recently announced Revell 1/600 Enterprise might be the NuTrek version, and that's why Round2's version has disappeared, but it seems unlikely to me. I think Revell's will be the classic TV Enterprise, especially as it's paired with a Klingon D7 (unless that appears in Abrams' sequel), and Revell have decided to cash in on classic Trek's 45th anniversary this year. We'll know more when Revell's catalogue appears with pictures of the ships.

No loss to me either Obi-Jiff, I have two thoughts about the JJprize 1)It was designed by Buick in the 1950's & 2) Somone melted most of it with a blow torch.

I'm hoping the new Revell kits are from the original series for the anniversary in September though the new movie is supposed to have Klingons in it. The scale of 1/600th suggests it's the original series because the JJprize would be enourmous in that scale.

Me too - having several of Revell's recent releases, including lots of Star Wars kits, I'm really keen to see what they could do with a large (but not massive) kit of the classic Enterprise.

BTW, the previous movie was a Klingon!

I've been wondering if the newly announced Trek kits from Revell will be pre-coloured, snap together jobbies, like their Star Wars range.

I suspect they will be the original tv versions, also.

Jiff, I thought the last film was with Romulans. :hmmm:

I'm wanting Revell to take the time to do an ACCURATE kit, the old AMT kits have some issues, preferably without their paint and good engineering to stop the nacelles sagging/snapping off. They have a chance to do the definitive kits of the Enterprize & D-7 here so I hope they don't blow it.

Probably get them even if they're just vague blobs as I've done most of the Trek kits available over the years!

Paul Harrison

Edit:- forgot to say I think Obi-Jiff may be thinking of the last movie as a Klingon in the toilet sense :shit::lol: It certainly isn't my fave movie, far too many bits that don't make a lick of sense but some of the FX were good, Uhura was hot and Zachary Quinto did a good turn as Spock, if a little too emotional. Must say I loved the Shuttle design, seat belts! Finally some seat belts!

There was a post on the Starship Modeler forum from a German participant who stated that he had received clarification/confirmation from Revell that these were brand-new kits of the original TV series ships. The sculptor is local to Germany.

The kits are not listed on Revell's site as "EasyKits" (unlike the Star Wars kits) so are quite unlikely to be pre-painted snap kits.
