HP Halifax Met V, Matchbox 1/72

Recommended Posts

Iain,

thanks too - that was one reason for modelling a Halifax before a Lancaster.

But this is often the case - the specialists get the limelight and the "generalists" are taking up the rear .....

see > Lancaster versus Halifax as well as B-17 versus Liberator !

I too wpuld like a new Halibag. I have steered clear of the Matchbox kit, but would like to build a Merlin powered version at some point. I feel very inspired by the Costal Command model here.

Here's an airfix kit, which has its own problems, I replaced various bits with PE, new engines and new glazing all round to get it looking something like it should:

Hi Popeye

Fantastic job as always, and I'm happy to be associated with such a gorgeous Halibag! I'll have to get on with my next one.

Bofin, nice one too, it's a shame it came to such an untimely end, just like so many of it's real life counterparts. I've just seen yours woody, nice too!

Woody - can you specify more clearly "new engines" please ?

Not exactly the next project, but another Halibag with Hercules engines would be nice some time ........

A Little extra from the Halifax, well Bradford but it's close enough! :D"Not wishing to sidetrack the thread - but I get impression that the Halifax never quite got the reputation/thanks it deserved. My grandfather was on 640 Sqn Leconfield on the Halifax Mk III and they generally loved them and preferred them to the Lanc". I'm with you all the way with that, very much overlooked and ignored, it must be very erksome for the ex Halibag crews!

Superb, John !

And don't worry - for me you are not sidetracking - on the contrary ! I feel somehow honoured that my thread on a kit built some 7 years ago leads modellers to posting more pics of other Halifax models.

When being able to visit SMW during the last 10 years I always wondered at the small number of Halifax representations shown - taking into account the importance of the a/c, numbers built and it's versatility. (and - no beauty, but something very British in character  )

Keep em coming....

Nice collection of Halifaxes on this thread.

Love the Coastal Command Colours Popeye you've got a lovely clean build. The Matchbox kit might be a bit basic but with some work and a few extra bits it can be built into a lovely model as demonstrated superbly on this thread.

I have one in the pipeline myself to do at some point to build as a GRII with the Special nose. It will also be in coastal command colours.

I honestly can't remember. I bought them from Hannats many years ago. They were white metal engines with kaki coloured plastic nacelles and came in little bags with a card on. From what I can remember, the following bits were replaced:

Engines with sets described

Glazing with a set off one of the Falcon series which has lots of planes on one sheet

Gun barrels with white metal ones

PE cockpit details

Just one more to add, the only Matchbox Halibag I have left in one piece! What we need is say Revel to abandon the Matchbox kit and start afresh with a new kit. I say Revell as I for one couldn't afford the sort of money that a Japanese produced kit would cost.

For lack of a thread with "new kits anouncements" -

Halibag fans seem to be able to look forward to a new tool Halifax at last:

:yahoo:

And look at the price.....!!!

Let's just hope by 'Neue Formen' they do mean a new tool & not just a re-issue of the Matchbox kit with new decals!! (I'd have thought if they were doing a new one they'd have gone for a Halifax III ??)

Keef

edit - they are also showing a 'Neue Formen' 1/72 JU-88A4 too!! (wish someone would do an A1!) And two new 1/144 jets. And a 1/32 Lynx....!!!!

Being a lazy and sometimes impatient old f..t who doesn't like to loose too much time in looking for reference I'm unashamedly reviving my thread on the Halifax -

by adding here in my own reference the two most revealing threads regarding the mods to the 2011 vintage Revell kit:

http://www.britmodel...topic=234910638

Any additional ref to revealing "WIP"s would be most welcome.

Rolf

P.S. of course also still looking for ways to get a decent Hercules engined Halibag .....
