Nick, one thing you are missing is the Positive battery terminal needs a rubber boot over it, because if you accidentally touch it to anything else metal, it will short with the chance of a fire, blowing the electrics or worse case senario the battery exploding in your face........ the Negative does not need one as it will be a negative earth return through the chassis, Staggering build BTW .

Tony,

I have an intimate knowledge of what you are referring to in the shape of many years ago, leaning heavily on a ring spanner tighning aforementioned battery nut, that was in contact with watch band, that was in turn in contact with car body, thus spot welding watch strap links together + smell of pork + swearing

I will NEVER do that again

You are, of course correct

Absolutely fantastic, the Aluminium sheet trick works a treat, is it just thick Aluminium foil or a sheet, whatever it really works.

My secret weapon

2 quid a pair from Tesco. Ideal thickness, I've tried about twenty different foils and thin sheets, this stuff is just right

Here's today's progress.

This is a shot of the BMF over micro balloons to replicate the rough texture I was talking about. It's slightly too coarse but it will do

Getting there now I think, got the sides done

The front suspension arms started out like this with large fictitous fillets on the underside as you can see here- they had to go!

so all that material carefully removed and tube section formed from the wreckage, made a new fillet from plasticard and punched a turret and top fillet piece from ali sheet

Heres the full size

Got most of the scratch building on the suspension done today as well as finishing the sheeting. This has turned into a big job!

 thanks Nick, it's probably because I've sprayed so much of the stuff myself now! I need to order some Ferrari red from Hiroboy for my 126 which I hope to start soon!

Cheers

Just tried microballoons to represent the suede on the steering wheel. Hmm, that didn't work then, back to the drawing board looks OK with the naked eye, but looks like its covered in ping-pong balls close up. SO suggestions then for ultra-fine non-soluble powder to represent suede at 1/12th - answers on a postcard (-:

I saw someone use embossing powder, but when I tried it in 1/24 it looked overscale to me - might work in 1/12? You get in from craft stores. Otherwise what about mixing talc with the paint & try stippling it on?

Bought a selection of watch repair screws that have some very useful tiny fasteners included. Made an insulated boot for +ve terminal as suggested earlier!

Off to see the Rev Al Green now so must dash(-:

Busy day yesterday:

Built and painted all the brakes, including scratch building a pair of brass plates and fixing bolts on top of the rear calipers

Turned a rear light form clear sprue to replace the solid chromed-plastic one supplied

4738177058_9812e26012_b.jpg

Removed all the non-scale, screw fixing pillars and cut-outs which turned into a big job, then painted the sponsons and finished the skirts with semi-matt black and matt ali BMF

4737540827_d4305a08ee_b.jpg

Finished and fitted the exhausts with rub&buff

4738177594_af983612bc_b.jpg

Wound exhaust retaining springs from 010 lead wire

4738178130_097547dfe3_b.jpg

Made needles for instrument panel, painted and Glue&Glazed

4737543763_ea30b72d95_b.jpg

Made a toggle switch for the steering wheel from a micronut and flattened 010 lead wire - bent up here I notice as well as being very dusty!

4738179620_b17e91772b_b.jpg

Stripped the chrome off the wings
