Skii
Right chaps On a parked and powered down SU-27, are the Mesh intake guards deployed or retracted ? my head says retracted like the FOD guards on a Mig-29, am I right ? cheers J
gishuk
i thought they were deployed, thats how i made mine anyway and its how most models ive seen have them. i cant find anything which says definitivly though, and in walkarounds of parked aircraft they always seem to have intake fod covers on. Yeah thats my experience too, the Mig's intakes have doors that completely cover them whilst the engine is on and there is weight on the langing gear , I'm thinking the Su-27 works the same way, I'd like them deployed because it would be a shame not to see the lovely etched parts supplied with the Academy kit. hmmmmm..... catcow1234
When the aircraft is powered down or in flight the FOD covers disengage but when it is powered up but on the ground the FOD covers engage. They are triggered by the nose wheel lifting. Edited January 21, 2010 by catcow1234
general melchett
John, catcow is right, the guards were only in place when powered up, engines running and in place til gear retraction which when you think about it makes sense...(when it finally gets finished!!, mine will be retracted but you can still see them...).
