Jazzy Jase
A few firsts for me on this one. First of 2010, first 1/48 kit and first use of Alclad (all the silver bits!). The kit went together very well except for 2 panel lines on the starboard wing which don't meet at the join. I added an Eduard Zoom photoetch to the cockpit as I wanted the seatbelts. The decals silvered horribly (the pics don't show how badly) and wouldn't settle into the panel lines with microsol. I used some MR Mark Softer, but it pooled and ruined all the RAF roundels. So I nicked some from another kit and laid them over the top. Model was painted using Tamiya's new Dark Green, Ocean Grey and Medium Sea Grey with the exhausts in Alclad Steel and the other silver bits in Alclad Dull Aluminium. As usual, constructive criticism is welcome. Edited January 10, 2010 by Jazzy Jase

Mike
Good old Mr Mark Softer... nearly wrecked my Martin Baker MB-5 with that stuff. Well saved though
spitfire
I really like that, the paintwork is faded perfectly. Cheers Den
alex
Very nice model. I just seen some panel lines, which "blurred" a bit. Have you applied the washing after the matt varnish at the end? For the silvering, the Tamiya were some of the best decals I've ever used regarding silvering. They are a bit thick, though. Excellent paintjob! Like the sublte preshading! Excellent paintjob! Like the sublte preshading! Alex The wash went on after the decals and then after another coat of Klear. The panel lines that don't meet are on the bright yellow bit (which didn't help). I should have re-scribed them but was being lazy, I just added some grey "weathering" to the wing to try to cover it up a bit, but it's not very successful - I know I've got to improve my technique for paint chipping. alex
sorry, I was more thinking of the gun servicing panels underneath the cockpit or between the shell chutes. It looks like the washing has tried to flee the panel lines. The misaligned panel lines doesn't show at all... Alex

In a few places the panel lines aren't deep enough (either because of too much sanding or I've put too much paint in etc) so the wash goes in fine but then when I wipe away the excess it takes all of it away. When this happens I guess I should put it back in using a fine brush. EDIT: Looking again I think the blurring you refer to is actually grey paint I've put around some of the panel lines. It's supposed to be chipping, but as I said earlier... I need to improve my skills in that area because, yes, it does look like I've smudged the panel wash! AnonymousFY21
Nice work. I like that Jase. One thing intrigues me, the seatbelt. Eduard have it going through the armour and onto the rear shelf. I was under the impression of the F.3 it just attached to a bar where your slot is? If you have any pics that show this arrangement I'd be very grateful. richc

The belt on the rear shelf just goes up to the armour and there is a seperate belt the other side.
