Spitfires (again)

At our last club meeting, Peter Cooke loaned me a pile of colour slides, which dated from the late 1970s, when he was researching for his Airfix 1/24th Mk.I, into a XIV, conversion. Various marks are included, and, at last, I know what the overflow pipe, on the XIX's wingtip, looks like.

Interesting, too, to see how the XIX's fuselage panels overlapped, but, when painted, rivets were invisible.

One other detail came to light, too. Booker's Mk.I, before its rebuild, had green wheel wells. There were photos, of XIVs, or XVIIIs, (can't be certain which) in Doug Arnold's hangar, at Blackbushe, as well, and all of the internal areas, including gun bays, and wheel wells, were also green. Painting wheel wells the same colour as the undersides might not be the be-all-and-end-all, after all, at least where Supermarine, and Westland-built, aircraft are concerned. At least, now, if you're challenged, you can say that there's photographic evidence, which can cause doubt.
