Jon Kunac-Tabinor Posted February 20, 2010 Author Share Posted February 20, 2010 well I did the nose oleo leg and forget to take pics - so sorry , But I removed about 3 mm of oleo and the sit looks better. I'm now on final assembly so i'll post some pics later before we go to RFI for the final 'photo shoot" lol One last think I 've discovered - the airbrake actuation pistons will make the brakes sit in an open postion that looks like they been lubed with a viagra based oil . Its a simple job to shorten them - I'm using pics from the ever handy airliners.net ( as usual with this build) to give me a guide. I'll try and show you all the little bits that I've added in the next set of pics. But as its Saturaday and my dads staying, we are having a few drinks so it may not be till later , hic. AnonymousAA72 Posted February 20, 2010 Share Posted February 20, 2010 Is a GR4 a possibility?Dan This kit, and the forthcoming boxing of the ECR kit include exactly the same plastic - and include FLIR and LRMTS pods, however, the stores included aren't suitable for a GR4, but you can build a GR1 from the box. I seem to recall that they will be doing a boxing of a GR4, though they will need to add a weapons/stores sprue, it would need new belly pylons, and a skyshadow at least (the kit has a BOZ107 but that needs amendment or replacement) and some cockpit amendments - though I doubt whther they would bother with the latter. First up I 'd like to thank everyone for being interested, and posting with opinions , tips, ideas and comments. I hope its been of use, and I hope that if you decide on a Hobby Boss Tornado, then this might be of some if you just cant live with it, as is. After several days of looking at the completed model, I've come to the following conclusions (with the help of some posts on the RFI thread too), and these are the ones that warrant expression First up: The wing pylons. I think that when they are applied, they make the stores angle up a bit. Easy to fix, just trim them a bit so they angle down. Second - the nose: despite all my trimming, cutting and general butchery, I still think its not quite there. There are some subtle curves going on here that I cant quite capture. maybe another go would sort that out? Third: the wing gloves - yes they are too thick , but hopefully Bill Clark has got a way to sort this - so I shall leave you in his capable hands. Were I to do another I'd have a bash. Fourth: The lower forward fin area. Still a bit thick I beleive on reflection, when one compares it to Neils Paragon correction for ther Italeri model. Nosewheels: Too big apparently. I must admit to not even checking, but several comments lead me to beleive this to be the case. Overall: This was fun, I actually like building models, so cutting them up and sticking them back together is part of the fun for me. It may not be your bag, so if building this model and wanting to make it look more like a Tornado , be prepared to either curb your enthusiasm or expectations. I'd love to see one built from the box as a comparison as I suspect it will actually look pretty good, but not quite right. Perhaps Hobby Boss might rework the tooling to make it look better shape wise, who knows? If you want a well fitting model with great detail, then the kit wont disappoint: Fit is good, even allowing for its modular style of build. If you want a model with all of the above that looks like a Tornado, either wait for a while more, or have a go at what I did: Or go for the Italeri model with all the aftermarket bits and do what has become the accepted way to get yourself a good looking Tornado. Its your choice, and I wont say either is the best, or most right, (or cheaper:) ) Well thats its folks. dedicated to Merv, and to all RAF personel, wherever they me be. Per Ardua Ad Astra. Will the Iterleri front fuslege section fit on the HB rear section? That is, between the intakes. That could solve a lot of problems with the shape and the messed up canopy. But as I've never really been a bif user of Klear for decal setting i dont know how it compares other than to say id di stick them down . I'll deduct a point from my "smug self-satisfied" score LOL Hopefully the rest of the build has been of interest though?
