Thank you gentlefolk... decals today :) Mind you, I think I've lost the Falcon decals, so I might have to fall back & use the SC ones - bet they're crap

 Why am I not surprised that the SC decals were poo? Everything else about the kit is (except for the spinner)! I've had to raid the spares for the roundels and codes. The roundels were from a Tamiya Spit, the fin flashes from a Tamiya Mossie, and the codes from a sheet of Carpena codes of various sizes. Thanks to Ian's reply to my enquiry about P decals, they're on the way from Fantasy Printshop in 30" and 36" sizes, so will hopefully be with me tomorrow, or maybe Monday. It'll slow things down, but I just couldn't bring myself to play jigsaw with the kit decals... horrible! :owww:

Once they've got past the worrying wrinkly stage, I'll post up some pics :)

Cheers Mish. :) After a mini-disaster with some Tamiya decals reacting badly to the Mr Mark Softer, leaving me with some icky wrinkled decals, I was left with this:

I decided to exercise some caution & gently wet sanded the wrinkles off with a fine sanding stick, being careful not to leave any sanding debris behind. Then it was a trip to the decal stash to see what I had that would fit the bill. I ended up using some more Tamiya upper roundels, but used the less aggressive Mr Mark Setter. The underwing roundels were from an Xtracrylix set for the Normandy Landings, so I guess I'll have to repay that set some day :S

Anyway... here she is with her stickers on :)

Still think you should have painted them on though :evil_laugh:

A big case of CBA there Chris... ^_^

I think a side view is in order here Mike, just to show the true length of the MB5.

I don't think the 3/4 views do it justice.

Thats if you CBA

Chris.

Nice one Mike,

Your decal thing happened to me too.

I don't use softer/setter anymore, and I tend to use more and more masks (Montex). That's the way!

Er, Mike, think you've stuck the wrong prop on that Mustang :P

Cracking work so far boss, missed this and plenty other builds in my absence so gradually catching up. You certainly know how to work a vacuform kit.

Good to see you again Col. Where you been this time? Had someone stuck a pedal on too tight on your bike? ;)

Thanks for the comments folks :)

Looking good now Mike, that's why I like masks for markings, but I'm not brave enough to do all the markings that way.

Cheers

Thanks Mish - at the special request of Stringbag, here's a side on shot of the (mostly) decaled airframe... just waiting for the Ps to arrive now before I can continue. I got a dispatch note from Fantasy Printshop today, so hopefully tomorrow or Tuesday

Nice one Mike. Shows the rather elegant lines to much better effect I think.

Cheers laa :)

I thought I'd try something different with the exhaust stubs on this one, and gave them a base coat of shiny black. On top of this I sprayed Alclad Dark Aluminium, heavier at the ends, and then alternate coats of hot metal purple and blue to simulate heat discoloration. Once those were done, I mixed up a small amount of Mig Old Rust pigment with fixer, and gave it a dilute wash, heavier nearer the engine, in line with observations of a few running Griffon engined Spits on the web. I'm not sure you can see the detail here, but it seems to have come out ok. :)

A lot of masking tape was harmed during this process ;)

I've had a re-read of the article about the large scale MB5, it's 1/24 and built by Alan Clark and as has been pointed out, it was in SAMI

Aye... a big old beastie indeed! Wish I'd seen it (and the one at ARC) before I started mine :)
