Taranis is scheduled to fly next year as well
Mike
Weird looking beastie... sort of a cross between a poor man's A-10 with a cold war tail Is anyone else a bit sad that UAVs are slowly taking over (from a modeller's POV)? When they strip out the pilot, they also seem to remove the design flair and excitement from the designs
GrahamS
When it says "first all electric" does that mean the engines are electrically powered? And yes an aircraft is not an aircraft unless it's got somebody sat up front! Graham
CockneyCol
Dunno, just having seen it at Farnborough I hoped it would look more......"Spacy" or summat, Just looks a bit cheap and cobbled from a model point of view, like a spares box "What If". To me UAV's should look like the flying things in Terminator and should leave you with a "WTF" reaction! That'll be the price of being brought up on Artists Impressions in Flight and Aircraft Illustrated. It works and it's British and we should be proud of that....and if it saves lives on the ground then I don't care what it looks like. Grand words there. I dont think UAV's or UCAV's will ever fully replace pilots; heck some are big enough to accomodate pilots too - I think the USN has something like that on the drawing bourd. The issue of the human finger on the trigger/button is a huge one, but for the lesser roles and sneaky business then this is where these remote control planes on pep pills will fit in. lol perhaps we're seeing the replacement of the Nimrod R1?! Heaven forbid XD
hovis
what confuses me, if all these uav's are pilotless, why do they all have canopy bulges?

hovis
To put whacking great satellite dishes under! but you don't have to make a cockpit-looking bulge just to put a whacking great satellite dish in, can they not do that without ruining the lines of the bird?
