Muzz
Can anyone tell me if the positioning of the parts is correct before I start sticking bits together, can't seem to find any good referance pics of the flaps in the dropped position. spike7451
Not having used them I'm not sure but they look the wrong way round (ie,on the wrong wing)
Muzz
Thats fantastic guys, Tom I looked for some of your photo's on Promodeller too but those are great, Spike I thought you would have something in your collection. Know what you mean about them looking as if there on the wrong wing and I think it's a common mistake people make with them but I'm pretty certain there on the right way round, the mouldings could just do with having a bit more of a curve to them. Thanks again. Edited November 12, 2009 by Muzz
Shaun
How hard is the Paragon set to fit?. I don't have the set but I can see that the wing needs to be cut up to fit the resin items, pretty scarry if it goes wrong? Shaun.
Muzz
Hi Shaun I bought myself a good mini razor saw set from Little-cars which goes through the plastic really well in nice straight lines, so cutting the wings up has been the easy bit, you've just got to take a bit of time to measure what your cutting off, you get quite good diagrams in the instructions showing you what you need to cut off. I found the difficult parts going to be sticking on the resin bits so it looks like the real thing! You've got to be really careful cutting the resin parts from the moulding blocks and 'touch wood' I've not broken anything yet. I'm only hlf way through so I'll let you know how I get on. I'm pretty certain Paragon do them in 1/32 as well, you could have a go yourself with your upcoming build!! Pete in Lincs
Muzz, Four flaps on each wing, the resin bits all seem to be joined together. They are powered up & down by Hydraulic screwjack (imagine what happens to the bolt when you turn the nut) Spikes pic of a left wing shows them fully down. The pic of the right wing shows them at mid. One position is for take off, the other for land. Whichever down position they are, in the slats should be out. One up, all up! Or you fall out of the sky! If fully down then the krueger flaps (on the nib fairings should be out, though these were disabled on some a/c & not used I think on F3's) Thats about as far as memory goes, I last worked on GR1's 20 years ago! Good luck Pete
Alan P
One thing i have noticed now I'm on my third set of these is that unless the trailing edge flaps are at full deployment, the smaller slotted flaps are not fully visible. You have your flaps deployed in the pic at an intermediate setting, so the slotted flaps should be slightly recessed under the trailing edge of the wing. (only slightly!!) Otherwise looks about right to me. Al
Muzz
Thanks for all the comments guys, think I'm going to have to get the Dremel out and thin the top surface of the wing, it's about 1.5mm thick! Not looking forward to that one but if it works it should be worth it, if it doesn't does anybody have any spare Tornado wings!

Good luck Pete I can't find any current photo's of RAF Tornado's (except very early GR1's) with the Krueger flap extended, it appears that the RAF disabled these items shorty after entry to service. On the other hand German and Italian aircraft appear to more photographed with this item deployed. Edited November 14, 2009 by Shaun

Shaun
Another quick Tornado question- Can anyone comfirm the rules as to when the cooling vents are open on the forward fuselage?. They are located near the gun ports on both sides and there is also a square panel that opens just behind the rear cockpit on the port side. Shaun. They're open when ground power or engine start is applied & only close when the aircraft is at sufficient speed to allow the RAM Air cooling to take over,ie when airbourne. They're not vents as such but cooling intakes & make a whistling noise when on,like a vacumn cleaner. The GR1 did'nt have the one by the port gun position iirc. Cheers Spike. Yesterday I started cutting plastic on my 1/32nd Tornado kit and I'm checking what needs opening before i start the main construction. So a static Tornado without power would have theses doors closed? I have also notised that the EPU exhust is totally missing from the kit. I've decided to keep the wing flaps in the closed position and hopefully make a "all hanging out" Tornado once the 1/48th Hobby Boss kit arrives. Shaun. Yup, You can open the EPU up & build a box around it on the inside with 2 'L's of sprue & scrap card & paint black.
