Afternoon all,

last Saturday I was on duty on XM594 and after having some requests I have done a detailed 'walkround' (more like stand still and turn around on the spot!!! ) so here are some shots for you all to peruse........

Firstly the Radar/Plotter seat, the rad/plot worked in conjunction with the plot/nav to navigate the aircraft using the radar equipment, the rad/nav was also in charge of the bombing part of the sortie and held the controls for the bombing equipment, here we see the seat turned outwards....

And the seat fully turned in as it would be during flight....

This is the rad/nav station, the big white circular screen is the main H2S Radar (housed in the chin blister) and above that is the radar altimeter, on the wall to his left is the bomb sequencing and timer unit and release switch....

DSC00654.jpg

This is the Plotter/Navigators seat in the centre, the seat move fore/aft on rails but does not turn out like the other two....

DSC00676.jpg

This is the plot/nav station directly in front of the two folders on the bench.....

DSC00657.jpg

Lastly the AEO seat (Air Electronics Officer), the AEO was in charge of the radio equipment on the aircraft and the chaff/flare dispensors, also the main task was the control of the AAPU and the power genoration of the four alternators on the aircraft....

The seat fully turned in as it would be during flight....

The AEO's station, the little orange screen is the tail warning radar, above that is the chaff/flare dispensors, on the wall is the AAPU panel and power control panel, the blank plates are where the x-band receivers were housed but these were removed by the MOD....

DSC00653.jpg

We all know that the vulcan carried 5 crew but if need be they could carry an extra two on 'jump seats', here we can see the jump seat that is directly behind the rad/nav position....

DSC00659.jpg

Seat base (box) and back which has no cushioning whatsoever and is very uncomfortable but serves a purpose, when it was used a harnes was fixed in place to retain the crew member.....

DSC00647.jpg

This is the jump seat directly behind the AEO's position.....

DSC00658.jpg

Seat base and back, a little more cramped than the other jump seat....

DSC00645.jpg

Ok that's the back seats done, now the crew door, this is looking down from above....

DSC00674.jpg

Now looking directly aft at floor level, in the top of the picture is the floor for the rear crew seats, you can see the fixtures for the rams and a little storage space at the back....

DSC00672.jpg

Still looking aft and to the right we can see the detail that is under the AEO's position....

DSC00668.jpg

Now looking aft and to the left under the rad/nav's position....

DSC00669.jpg

Right now for the super, super detail LoL, I took a load of measurements too and drew this cross section of the rear crew compartment....

Also a floor plan....

That was a great day John, perhaps the best yet. We finally left at around 9:30 pm and I understand the last people were still there at 10pm. Did you see the pic I took in the cafe?

Can I say thank you for this invaluable source of images, would it possible to get any images of the bomb-aimers position?

Thanks,

Sam
