Eduard's Lightning

Went to antics in bristol at the weekend and managed (rather unexpectedly) to find one (they had 2 in stock)

for £50 quid which i snapped up at once,

(at rrp of almost $95 which i rekon is about 65 quid i figured that price was a bit of a bargain)

i opened the box and i rekon its an awsome kit. Lovely detail everywhere.

Now, im aware theres probably some inacuracies but for someone like me whos' just generally interested

in the aircraft and am interested in building something "representitave" i think its a blinder!

the decals are awsome. and im really looking forward to building it.

Just had a look on Ebay and there are two Airfix Lightnings on there - one for £60 and one for £55 including postage.

If the price of the 2nd hand Airfix kits stays at these levels then the Eduard one is going to look more and more tempting for me.

Ah yes the Eagle is a very nice aeroplane, but the Teen Series and their contemporaries simply don't have the character of the previous generation :)

I think the Eagle screams character but regardless of that, the Lightning is my all time fave British Jet so we do agree. I just had to pull your leg a bit.

Cheers!!

Noticed that yesterday too and was baffled

No probs Mike :) The Eagle is an awesome aircraft. I actually quite like the Teen series, but the problem is they're all grey! Being born in 1981 I've grown up with grey jets and the jets of the 50's and 60's always seemed to have more appeal to me.

Noticed that yesterday too and was baffled unsure.gif

Somebody is selling the new Eduard kits on Ebay for £45 +£3 postage  I suppose we coud give it some time and see what happens to the asking prices for the Airfix kits, as the Eduard one has only just arrived.

Nice picture Mike!

I like Lightnings but the teen fighters are my generation, and are amongst my very favourite aircraft of all time. Ok, so Eagles and Falcons can be a little grey, but Tomcats and Hornets ( at least the CAG birds) are a veritable burst of colour.

On Dogfights yesterday, an Isreali pilot, who scored 17 kills in Mirages and Neshers, summed it up quite nicely. He converted to Vipers in 1988 (at the age of 50!) and flew them for 10 years. He said you are only one of many inputs in an F-16. Fantastic as they are, flying them doesn't feel the same as a fighter from the generation before.

on the topic of no 1/72 lightnings that are any good, can anybody tell what the hasegawa kit is like, i have opened the box and apart from the raised panel lines (to be rescribed :suicide:) it looks alright, any opinions??

The Hase kit was reboxed by Revell so there should be some reviews around Hazza

Also when saying there are no 1/72 good lightnings, what about the Heritage kit? I thought that was supposed to be good. Also with the cost of the Trumpy kit is a competetive price.

Assume you mean plastic? ;)

Both the Hase and Revell kits are reboxings of the Frog kit from way back when.

The Hasegawa/Revell Lightning is the best part of being 40 years old now - and it show's it!!! The belly tank is too shallow in places and the whole nose is elongated - remove the nose ring and you have the correct size more or less - but then the canopy is wrong. The windscreen is too long as well. The fin is the wrong shape - there is no detail on the rear tailplane actuator fairings. The wings!!

Oh dearie me!!!! Wrong shape no camber no leading edge kink, undercarriage units too spindly. At least this kit has age as an excuse!!

BEST plastic Lightning? The old Matchbox F2a/F6. Has the best side profile and wing shape by far and some nice detail - some appalling detail as well - it has to be said!!

I'm just gonna sit tight on my stash of Modeldecals, Xtradecals, Aeromaster Lightning decals - wait until either (A.) Academy issue a decent F6/F2a and MPM a decent F3 (both announced ayear or so back!) or (B.) Airfix see the light and consign their tired old F1a/F3 to the great landfill site in the sky, and issue a brand new series of Lightnings in 1/72

Nearly, but not quite:The Frog kit was a "back-engineered" version of the Hasegawa kit produced after the swapping of shots between the two companies ceased circa 1973. Technically the roots of this particular kit lie with Hasegawa.
