Mike's giant suppository

Recommended Posts

Nice model.

I remember seeing some of these at Eckenforde on Navy days back in the 80's.

Nice subs, pack quite a punch for thier size, but then again the Gemman navy has always been good at designing these smaller patrol type subs.

Not sure all these masts would be up at the same time though!

The bigone with with fancy paint job is the Snort Induction/Exhaust. Basically Sucks the air in and exhaust out for the diesel engines which propel the sub, and charge the battieries for submerged running. Any diesel/electric sub is at it most vunerable while doing this. Some of these are now alos coated with radar absorbing material as well as dazzel paint jobs to defeat the MK.1 eyeball.

Certainly, but who cares??

I don't even know what is their purpose.

I just can identify, from bow to aft:

- Unknown

- Periscope

- Radio?

- Schnorkel

- Radar

- Unknown

Hi,

point about the masts was not ment as a critisisum. I know there all up for show.

Masts are;

1. Not really a mast but the subs navigation light I think.

2. Periscope.

3. Radio/Coms mast

4. Snort Induction / Exhaust (this also has a Navigation antenna initally Loran I supect later GPS built in)

5. Radar Mast

6. ESM Electionics antenna

A quick point some might not know is that while on the surface or snorkaling the diesel engines now do not drive the boat, they act as generators supplying power direct to the electric motor and charging the batteries at the same time.

I believe the Germans will have some of these still into service till 2010 last I heard.

Critiscism is welcome!!

But as I didn't know much about subs, and for my first try at ships, I've just followed revell's instructions, who indicates only two options: Everything up, or everything down!

As I wanted something a little bit "alive", I choose to go for the "up" option.
