eng
I've an Airfix SHAR FA.2 in the stash with a Flightpath detail set for it, but whilst in LHS today came across a Tamiya SHAR FRS.1. This set me wondering about cross-kitting the 2, primarily using the Tamiya kit as the base with reqd nose etc off the Airfix kit. Is the Tamiya kit any good (the box in LHS was all sealed up) and is it even worth this hassle, or is the Airfix kit good enough on it's own? I do have an article somewhere with some improvements to be made to the Airfix kit to sharpen it up a bit. Just thinking out loud and wondering if anyones tried this. I know Tamiya stuff is usually pretty good, but I'm sure this is one of there earlier kits as I've seen it on shelfs for years. Rgds, Eng
Heraldcoupe
The Tamiya FRS1 is pretty ancient and has some shape issues, the Airfix kit has always been cosidered to be better, Cheers, Bill.
Dave Fleming
Some of the detail parts are useable, but that's about it
bexwh773
Eng, Mish built the Tamiya one for the Naval GB and never stopped moaning about it Build Thread Here Bexy
rod mcq
You might want to look at this thread from a few months ago. It contains a reference to an article in an old issue of SAM where someone set out to cross kit the Airfix and Tamiya kits. In the end all he used from the Tamiya kit were the outrigger wheels. 1/48 Sea Harrier
cmatthewbacon
If you can find one, your best bet for cross-kitting is with the Airfix SHAR is the Monogram AV-8A. It's said to be hard to find, but with SMW coming up, your luck might be in... bestest, M.
Ingo Degenhardt
I used the Flightpath set with the Airfix kit and that works well. As someone mentioned here before the only real improvement coming from the Tamiya kit would be the outrigger wheels. They are much better than Airfix'. If you want to take a look at my FRS.1: http://hyperscale.com/2007/features/seaharrierfrs1id_1.htm Ingo
eng
Nuff said! Seriously, thank's for all the rapid responses to my query, I think given the general opinion I'll make do with my Airfix SHAR and the Flightpath detail set. Like I mentioned earlier I also have some more info on the PC about what changes need to be made. I was just curious as to whether the breakdown or quality of the Tamiya kit would lead to an easier or more accurate build of the SHAR. Not on my immediate list of "to do's" but one that keeps rearing it's head, and seeing the Tamiya kit today set me off thinking about it again. Thank's for all your help, you can't beat BM for its wealth of knowledge! Eng ......now then, back to my Huey...
