dylan the rabbit
This is a renovation project of the 1/48th Airfix Mosquito BXVI I built on returning to the hobby 2 years ago. I'd initially built it with the wheels up, and there were various ugly bottom seams that needed cleaning up, the paint job was horrible, the decals silvered... Need I go on? Basically, I liked it, but it bugged me every time I looked at it, and have been inspired to redo it based on seeing Neil and Grahams' lovely work on their Mossies. Here's a few shots pre renovation.. The kit has been mostly sanded down, the decals removed, seam lines sanded off, a hole drilled in the bomb door so I can put it on a stand, the cockpit details will be repainted (green radio!!!!!), and I will be respraying it medium sea grey underneath, and redoing the ocean grey/green camo on top. It's going to be rebuilt as 8K-K of 571 squadron, and the only stumbling block I see is with the decals. I've looked for Letraset letters here to spray an undercoat of red, slap 'em on, and then spray the camo, but can't find any. Decal paper is not available in Dubai either. I think I'll just have to order an Aeropoxy spray mask, and spray them on. The decals for the rest of the kit have been poached from an NF30 Airfix kit. That's it so far. Should be spraying in a couple of days. Thanks to Ian, Ian, peepeep and Edgar for the input so far. This project would not be going at all well without your help. Cheers, Nick
