Hase/Alitaliene 1/48th Harrier T10

Recommended Posts

Back in September 2006 I took this photo.....

100_4340.jpg

It shows two Hase Harrier GR7's being built. Only one of these actually managed to get finished. The upper one with 65% LERX's

The lower GR7 ws due to be painted in 1 Sqn's Arctic colour scheme - and I had slapped paint on it - but it wasn't one of my better paint jobs!

So, a month or so ago I decided to strip the paint off - with a view of re-painting her. Whilst doing so, Mrs Clark asked me why I was spending all that time stripping paint off when I had other Harriers in the stash!

I did start to explain that I'd added 100% LERX's and then decided better of it!

I did though tend to agree and then took the decision to convert her into a T10, using the Alitaliene conversion..I have saved the 100% LERX's - I'll start my GR7 (or GR9) after I've finished this one!

So here we are three years on .......

Where can you get this conversion from?

Just so happens I have the box to hand.......The conversion was distributed by Misterkit of Italy.

www.misterkit.com

There's a price tag of €36.00 on it - and I must have bought it a couple of years ago....I have no idea if its still available...

Hiya Bill,

Looking good so far! Any chance of her being ready for the SIG display at SMW this year, or do you have other plans for her at the show? I hope the CD of 20 Sqn pic will be of use...

Cheers,

Nick

Hi Nick, I'll try my best! Big problem is that I am due to be working on both the Saturday and Sunday of SWM, so it looks highly unlikely that I'll get up there - unless I can swap shifts with someone! If I can't make it, I'm sure I'll find someone to ferry them up!! I've yet to reply your e-mail regarding SWM, but I'll do so over the next day or so....I have a few 1/72nd scale models gathering dust in the loft!!!

The CD is very uselful! I also have Mark Atrill's book - so I have no excuse for not getting it right!!

I had thought about doing my T10 as BAe's ZH653 in the all over Medium (Lichen) Green, though looking at pic's on Airliners.Net the colour looks a lot greyer than I remember Lichen Green being..

any thoughts?

Looking good Bill, It's a bit of a filler queen.

I'm building the same conversion set myself. My project has currently stalled till I figure a way of getting the canopy det cord to look correct.

How are you going to tackle it?

Shaun.

I'll cross that bridge when I get there Shaun! Though I do have the Aires GR7 set with PE MDC, I may copy that - with fusewire maybe - dunno yet......I am aimimg to pose it with canopies open so that means a lot of butchery around the centre consul, I've done a quick guesstimate, and I reckon half of that has to go - to allow the internal blast screen plus associated plumbing/wiring etc.,

The seats are quite nice aren't they? Its gonna be fun......!

The det cord is a diferent patern to the single seat Harriers, thats why I'm still trying to figure out a tidy way of reproducing it.

You will need to cut the front off the rear IP consul, it's to long if you want to fit the blast screen and make it all line up with the canopy framing.

The seats are very nice but appear to be copys of the late MK10's from the Neomega Hawk cockpit set.

If I get time later after work, I'll post some pics from my build showing the cockpit mods required.

Yeah, I know! I've been studying Mark Attrill's book and the CD from Nick at the HARSig.....The centre consul is just a plain lump of resin - and goes no-where near the centre glazing section! Still a few nmins work with my junior hacksaw - resin dut everywhere!!!

I can live with the seats - though I should have a pair of Aeroclub Mk 12's knocking about somewhere......

On the model.

No, the canopy is a plain vac form. My conversion set came with solid resin piece which the vac canopy was molded on, this has allowed me to crash mold another 3-4 spare canopys. This has given me more to play with once I've figure out what route to take with the cockpit.

The front windscreen is the Hasegawa kit part which I packed out to fit the resin cockpit section.

Right, If its okay with Shaun, I'd like to post some pic's of MY T10 on MY thread!!! :bangin::evil_laugh:

(Only kidding Shaun, you post 'em on here if you like.........)

Right, we identified earlier that the central consul was too big and the wrong shape...

Here it is with my estimation of the resin that would need to be shifted

IMG_1794.jpg

...and here in place on the cockpit shelf

IMG_1795.jpg

I've removed a big wedge here

IMG_1796.jpg

The canopy sections have been separated - here I;m trying th e rear hood for fit/size

IMG_1804.jpg

..and here's the all important centre section. I've added plastic strip reinforcement and I'll do this to the canopies as well.

Its only placed on the shelf at the moment - no glue involved yet as I have to add some internal details first. I'll hide that gap where the consul was meant to go later

Theres a big piece of material on the real thing pegged to the blast screen bulkhead - no doubt covering wires and stuff!!!

The internal blast screen can be made from clear plastic card and joined to the front of the central glazing section....

..thats the plan so far anyway!!!

Bill,

You may not be aware, but the forward windscreen is different from the single seater and needs modifying. I am nearing completion of my TAV-8B build and when you think about it's really quite obvious, as the single seater slides backwards, so the trailing edge of the windscreen is a right angle. The side opening canopy on the two seater would not open if this were the same, so the forward end of the canopy becomes the right angle..

Have a look at this I made for comparison and look at the angles at the rear of the windscreen (two seater on the left and single on the right and both images taken square to the fuselage).

new.jpg

I modified mine by measuring up the windscreen scale distance using the image and then removing a wedge from the rear. The Alitaliane canopy is too long anyway (as is their cockpit opening), so you should have extra canopy to play with. I ended up shoehorning a pair of Aires cockpits into mine for some very nice detail, however, there are no canopy opening hydraulic pistons which need to be scratchbuilt (they are quite prominent).

Nick,

Will send you a PM as I have one of the Alitaliane T.10 sets for disposal.

Craig.

Hiya Craig, long time no parlez!!! Thanks for that - I hadn't really noticed the different wind-screens...I will use the vac-formed canopy as supplied cut back. I'll probably crash mould a new forward hood.

Cheers

Great work on the IP panel.

I'm going to watch how you tackle the canopy area and will hopefully pick up some good tips

Shaun.

Thanks Shaun, take a look at Talon's/Craig's post - some interesting stuff on the canopy.

Can you re-post your pic's please? If not on here, then on a new post maybe?

Cheers

Bill
