My piccies are crap but the decals are not! They are lovely, sharp and in register--slightly glossy, nice. Better buy in a couple of gallons of Set and Sol for this :frantic:

All-in-all, a lovely bundle! Thanks to Graham at Relish Models----A wonderful chap!!

Instruction sheets can be downloaded here http://www.round2models.com/models/polar-l...prise/pol808-11 if any one is interested.

Instructions----2, A2 double sided sheets, one side of which is assembly the rest for decals.

Mmmm, I wonder if it's possible to buy the decals seperately? I've got the original release of the kit in my stash, the decals would really make it simpler to do a decent job of the paintwork!

Cheers for the look-see.

Not sure if the word 'simpler' really applies mate!!

Four, 16X16" sheets of the little devils!! Virtually the whole thing is supposed to be covered apart from a couple of areas such as the secondary hull blue top etc.

Might be worth a try through the Polar Lights/Round 2 website. They've got a --contact us--bit.

I've got the original kit but I'm too scared of it to open the box! I've done loads of the AMT kits but the Polar Lights kits are gigantic! I was thinking they'd overpriced this new version but after seeing your pics it looks worth every penny. Be interesting to see how all those decals work out!

To be honest I'm not sure it is! I bought mine for 30 quid from Modelzone a couple of years ago, the current price on this kit is more like £90 isn't it?

The decals are fabulous but are they, new box-art and a new instruction sheet worth another 60 quid!!! I know the economy and exchange rates are in a constant state of flux at the moment but c'mon, an extra 60 quid!!!

Like I mentioned, if I can buy a set of decals from Polar-Lights then I'll be happy, I probably wouldn't use them all, the larger colour accents and blocks are probably best painted anyway, I was thinking the repetitive geometric panel-work on the saucer and the small panels on the engineering hull would benefit from the decals.

I've got the original one too so would be interested to hear how you get on with trying to get decals from PL.

Andy

I've sent them a message asking if they can supply or sell them seperately, I'll let you know if I get a response.

I've got 3 of the original release kits... 2 of them purchased from Play.com when they were selling them for £14.99 each.

I do think the current price is a bit steep, but the aztec decals do look nice.

If your looking for them seperately, then you can buy THESE from Starship modeler.

IIRC in the new release you get a new metal rod stand and some of the parts are supposed to have been upgraded as well as the new decals. The Acreation decals set works out at about £30 plus whatever postage there is added on, I got my refit for £30 so the new one isnt too bad for value considering some companies prices these days.

Right indeed about the metal stand. It's also a single pole affair rather than that convoluted three-legged mess that the first release had. Supposedly the hangar bay interior was improved as well?

I'd heard that about the hangar bay too David. First thing I'll do when I start my older one is chuck the stand out and fit some brass rod instead.

I look forward to seeing a build! All I do is take the kit out to drool over it, then get scared and put it away...

Gonna do the big NX-01 first.

Got a response from Bob Plant at Round2Models who own Polar Lights

"Hi Les,

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer the aztecing decals separately at this time. However, it’s something we are looking into and hope to have available in the next few months or so. Please occasionally check our website for updates; it’s something we will ultimately offer through our online shop.

Best regards,

Bob

And hey, I'm a patient man, the kit has been in my stash for a while already, and I don't have anywhere to put the damned thing at the moment anyway!

As regards the stand, I can confirm that it is now a huge, rectangular moulding with a 3/8" dia SOLID metal rod. This now locates just behind the front, main sensor disc. I imagine this is the balance point. Should be a lot sturdier but anyone thinking of lighting it will have no tunnel to lead wires down to the base.

Good to hear about the decals mate, if they actually apply ok they will be well worth it!!

I've had one of these since they were first released and finally got round to building it this year. I have fully lit the interior and added some - note the word some- of the aztec panelling that I downloaded for free from starship modeller. I have still to finish the paint job and add most of the kit decals. When finished I will post some pictures if anyone is interested. I agree that the current price of nearly £90 is expensive even on E-Bay they go for nearly £60 and thats for the old origional issue. I contacted a guy in the States who could supply me with a full set of aztec decals for about £30 but the p & p was another £20 so I decided not to bother.

At 2.5 feet this is one helluva beast. Youre a braver man than me Gunga Din.

2,5 feet? You're not kidding? I got the AMT kit and that thing is quite big as it is. It's on a shelf in my room but it's really a bit too big. 2,5 feet would be enormous.

Just been on Round 2 website:

This is what they now have advertised....

1:350 U.S.S. Enterprise 1701A Decal Set

Item No: MKA001

Release Date: October 2010

Huge decals to fill a huge demand! The U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701A as seen in Star Trek: The Motion Picture was originally painted various shades of pearlescent paints to give the smooth ship a paneled look. The patterns created were intricate and iconic and is the standard by which modelers compare their own attempts at the ship. Since the first announcement of the 2009 release of the 1:350 scale Enterprise A, modelers have been clamoring for the Aztec panel decals it contained so they could incorporate them into the kits already sitting on their shelves. Round 2 has heard their plea and is now delivering to the delight of large scale modelers everywhere.

•Scale: 1/350

•5 HUGE (approx. 15” x 15”) sheets

•4 sheets of Aztec decals used in the 2009 1:350 Enterprise 1701A release

•1 NEW sheet created specifically for this set with alternate ship names and registry numbers

•Engineering colors in blue, gray (onscreen appearance), and green

•Detailed application instructions

I can see no pricing though

Simon
